The film focuses on the character of Diana who recalls the events from World War I. Diana, the daughter of Queen Hippolyta was born and raised on the hidden island of Themyscira, a land ruled by Amazon women. After receiving intense training from Antiope, Diana learns how the god Ares wanted to erase mankind but was stopped by Zeus after which a battle took thereby leading to the death of Zeus.
Ares became injured and managed to escape with Zeus leaving behind what is known as the Godkiller. One day, an American pilot Steve Trevor crash lands on Themyscira after which he is interrogated to reveal that German General Erich Ludendorff is planning to release a deadly gas on to the environment. Diana leaves to confront Ludendorff as she believes him to be Ares in disguise.
Meanwhile, Sir Patrick Morgan, the head of the Supreme War Council, hires Steve to help prevent the gas from being released. Despite Trevor getting in between Diana and Ludendorff, she still manages to kill him but is surprised to see how the war is still being continued despite Ludendorff’s death.
Sir Patrick appears in the meantime and reveals himself to be Ares who explains to Diana as to how she is the true Godkiller and also the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. Ares attempts to make Diana join him only to be killed off by her, thus putting an end to the war.
Wonder Woman Production
After much speculation, it was finally announced in 2010 by Warner Bros. that a Wonder Woman film was in production. After casting Gal Gadot as Diana, both fans and critics showed their concern about the selection merit however, Zack Snyder clarified that amongst all the other actresses, Gadot was undoubtedly the strongest, kindest, as well as the fiercest. In order to make the film live up to its hype, Patty Jenkins, along with Visual Effects Supervisor Bill Westenhofer, took roughly around 1800 VFX shots. These shots were then distributed amongst the partnering companies including MPC, Double Negative, Pixomondo, UPP, Platige, and Weta. The MPC team used advanced tools like Maya, Nuke, Zbrush, Houdini, Renderman to add effects and make use of the VFX shots.
The film’s main score was composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams and was released on 2nd June 2017, by WaterTower Music. The theme is a mixture of original vocals, combined with the theme song taken from the film Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Wonder Woman was the film that put DC Entertainment back on track after the failure of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film was received with positive reviews as it eventually went on to gross over $821 million.
