The Song Review

The Power-packed Collaboration!

Life is Good made its way to YouTube on January 20, 2020, and now has over 1.9 billion views. The collaboration of Drake and Future channeled the core momentum to this track. Their collaboration always takes off. In fact, they have been collaborating since the year 2011.

Before Life is good, the two artists came together for the 2018 hit release, Blue Tint. However, the song garnered mixed reviews. In fact, for many, the song was a bit off!

A Slur Song with Dull Energy that Seems like Two Separate Songs

Let us expand a bit more on this term. Something stands out about this song. You will sense energy; still, it keeps you feeling low. The song has reused various verses from Future’s previous songs. In addition, the change of beat and tune was not good at all. At first, you get to listen to Drake’s smooth yet striking part that keeps you going.

All of a sudden, it changes into a plan trap song. We think that is where the song got off track. It makes it seem literally like two separate songs. For us, the transitional phase was a little bad and made it into a slur.

The critics observed pointed out the same thing. Critics at Billboard wrote, “Structuring the song into two halves, Drake performing the first half and Future performing the latter, each with a different beat, reminded of Drake’s previous feature for Travis Scot”. However, Billboard liked how the vocals of the two artists complemented each other.

Let us now talk about the song’s commercial performance.

Life is Good – Commercial Performance

Commercially, the song performed reasonably well. The song took the No. 2 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 songs and went on to stay No. 2 for straight eight weeks. In this way, it became the highest-charting song for Future until September 2021. Moreover, the song was at No. 2 on the US Rolling Stone Top 100. In addition to that, it was at the No. 3 spot on the UK Singles Chart.

The song was certified as Diamond in the US by RIAA. Besides that, it received Gold certifications from seven countries. It was certified platinum in the UK, by BPI.

Life is Good – Music Video

It is meaningful. In the video, we see Drake and Future take different ordinary job roles. That includes IT workers, chefs, take away workers, garbage men, store employees, mechanics, assistant directors, and aspiring rappers. The video begins with Drake and Future as garbage men, arriving on a garbage truck on a street at night. The video shoot also included the recording artists such as Mike Will Make-it, Lil Yachty, Big Bank, and 21 Savage.

The Lyrics & Music

In the lyrics, the artists boast about their riches and portray the hustle in life. Generally, they say that life is good overall.

It is a pure rap number. The rapping mag XXL referred to the song’s instrumentation and production as “Dreamy”.
