Bright Memory – Episode 1

I am still trying to wrap my head around how Bright Memory – Episode 1 was made by just one guy! This is a game that is still in development and as a result is going to be released in episode format. If you love action, first-person shooters and killing hordes of monsters, this is a game you need to take a closer look at.

The Game Review

For a game that was just created by one person, Bright Memory has sky-high production values. I am not exaggerating when I say that if you showed a person the trailer for this that they would think this was a game made by a company like EA or Activision, that is how good it looks.

The story of the game is something that I thought was really cool. You play as Shelia who works for this organization that looks into scientific research. A sword with a material that can bring back things to life is found, another organization steals it and takes it to a mysterious land with all kinds of creatures. If you like sci-fi and action I think you will really like the story.

The gameplay of Bright Memory – Episode 1 is something that I knew right away was going to be something I had a lot of fun with. It has the over the topness of Devil May Cry, the heart of Tomb Raider and the first person shooter/action style of a game like Shadow Warrior.

The gameplay is very fast paced and it is very combo heavy. You will be shooting a big ugly looking wolf creature then a skeleton will come out of nowhere and you will have to deal with that. The different creatures and other people that get in your way are quite relentless and coming up with ways to chain together attacks is something that I had a lot of fun with.

You have to remember that Bright Memory – Episode 1 is a game that is made by just one person. With that being said, it is a very short game. This is designed to be an episodic game so that is to be expected, but I got through this first episode in around an hour. The thing is that I had so much fun, I have actually played through it a few times.

The HUD is a little busy for my liking as everything is all in the same place and it can be rather complicated until you know for sure what each thing represents. This, of course, is only a minor nitpick and it is my understanding that the developer is still making tweaks to the presentation of the game.

I had an absolute blast with this shooter and I actually mean it as a compliment when I say that the game left me wanting more! It was so much fun to play and I loved how fast paced the combat it. You actually have a lot of ways to dispose of enemies at your fingertips so I think watching videos of how other people play this game is going to be a lot of fun.
