V Rising is a game that in mid-May 2022 entered early access and already it is a game that is showing a lot of promise. This is an action/survival RPG where you play as a vampire and that is pretty damn awesome! I have spent a fair bit of time with the first build of the game and wanted to share my thoughts before I become a creature of the night looking for blood!
How to Download V Rising

The Movie Review
The premise of V Rising is something that I think is very cool. In this world vampires ruled, until they were mostly forced out and into hiding by the humans. You have awoken many years later and now want back what was once yours, a castle and the freedom to do what you want.
While I think the premise of the game is awesome, there is not actually a whole lot of story as you play the game. Still, it more than gives you enough motivation to sharpen your fangs and get to work trying to rebuild your castle and become the strongest vampire in the land.
V Rising is a 3rd person action survival RPG style of game that is all about blood. Rather than looking for food like you do in a standard survival game, you are always on the lookout for blood here. What is interesting is that blood comes in many different varieties in this game.
You can scavenge on a rat for example if you need some quick blood as you are low. However, if you were to feed on a human, that kind of blood is so much better for you than the blood of a rat. Feasting on a boss character or another beast can give you access to new and temporary powers which I think is such a clever idea.
The combat in the game is something that I think has a lot of potential. The melee weapons if I am being honest all felt rather similar, but the magic powers in the game were what really made combat fun. There are many different spells and abilities you can use so that you can play the game in a way that suits your playstyle best.
As well as playing through the game, trying to get stronger, learn new abilities and get better items. V Rising also has an interesting mechanic where you are trying to rebuild your castle. I loved the idea of this, but it can feel very, very grindy and I found myself the more I played the game, not wanting to chop down what felt like the one-millionth tree. I think this is one area that does need streamlined a bit or at least requires fewer resources to improve the castle.
I mostly played the game on my own, but I did also play in PVE with a friend and found it to be a lot of fun. To start with, grinding was not as much of an issue when playing with a friend. There is also PVP in the game too which I so far have just dabbled in, both multiplayer modes though do suffer from a bit of lag, but to be fair the game is still in early access.
There is a great deal to like here in V Rising. I think that this game could be great, as of right now though it is just good, but that is not a bad thing. I think that the game gets rather grindy and repetitive after a while as there is not a ton of content here just yet. Plus, the griding required to really build your castle can get rather old.
