Sally Face

I have to start by saying that Sally Face is a game that is not for everyone. I would advise that those only with an interest in horror and the stomach for some very gruesome stuff need check this out. This is an episodic game set over five chapters and it is the kind of game that if it gets its hooks into you, you will want to see it through all the way to the end.

The Game Review

When you talk about a game like Sally Face to someone who has not played it, you have to be very careful. For me, the real star of this game is the story and the fantastic writing. The main character of the game is Sal. Sal has a very horrible past and he has to wear a prosthetic face.

He and his father move to this freaking weird new apartment building where there are all kinds of weird stuff going on. There is a sinister cult at play here and poor Sal, along with a couple of friends that he makes tries to get to the bottom of the strange things that are going on in this place.

I do not want to say any more than that as the less you know about the main plot the better experience you are going to have here. I will say that the story is very unnerving in places and there is some pretty nasty imagery so if you have a weak stomach, you are probably not the kind of person this game is aimed at.

What good is the story if the gameplay is not up to scratch? Well, Sally Face is best described as a point and click adventure game. Everything controls well enough and there are some truly fiendish puzzles here that sometimes borderline on the frustrating! Still, due to the narrative of the game you are always compelled to keep pushing forward and discover the next bit of the story.

Sally Face does also have some mini-game type of things going on that help keep the gameplay moving forward. Just when you think you have all the answers to what is going down, the game changes the question. Getting through all five of the chapters is not going to take you all that long, but that is one of the game’s strengths.

The visuals of the game are fantastic. I know I have spoken a few times about how messed up the game can be. Still, this is a wonderful looking game and one that is so striking, what goes down really does stick with you for a very long time. The haunting music and sharp sound effects also help you get emotionally invested in this world.

I played through each chapter as they were released and I must admit that being able to plow through them one after the other is the way to go. My personal favorite of the five chapters has to be four as it has one of the most shocking twists in a game, I have come across in quite some time.

If you enjoy horror and point and click style games, Sally Face is the perfect game for you. This game has a tremendous story that is very well written and truly engaging. It looks fantastic and I have to say it is a damn shame that the game has not gotten more mainstream attention than it has.
