Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is a 2021 remaster of the fantastic point-and-click adventure game, Sam & Max: Season Two from 2008. Skunkape Games already did a fantastic job with the first Sam & Max remaster and I would say that this one is even better. Great for fans who loved the original and those who just got into it with the 2020s, Sam & Max Save the World Remastered.

The Game Review
Once again, we have the Freelance Police duo of Sam & Max on a wild and crazy adventure. It takes place a year after the events of Save the World and there are five episodes for you to play through. The five episodes are, Ice Station Santa, Moai Better Blues, Night of the Raving Dead, and What’s New Beelzebub?
The stories are so crazy that once you get done with one, you legit have no clue where it will go next, well unless you played the original of course. You go from a Santa that is shooting elves, a vampire prince, a trip to hell, UFOs, time travel, and more. It is crazy stuff, but it works.
The story of each chapter is exactly the same as it was when this was originally released as Sam & Max: Season 2. I am fine with this as the story did not need tinkering with at all so I am glad they kept it the same. However, Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space features many improvements over the original game.
Clearly, the most notable improvement are the visuals. As well as being in full widescreen, these visuals are fantastic and look like a high-end cartoon. These characters all have fun and wild personalities and this now shines through even more due to the incredible way that the game looks.
As well as the visuals being severely improved, the sound design has also had a lot of work done on it. The voice acting was already amazing, but it has been cleaned up here so it is much higher quality. This is a rare game where I would say that there is not a bad vocal performance in it!
The gameplay is the same point-and-click adventure stuff that we know and love from the series. You have to find items, solve puzzles and even do a little “shooting” around as well. It has backtracking, characters to talk to, and all the good stuff that made this series so popular for the last 30 years!
The puzzles are all exactly the same so if you played the original release, you may be able to breeze through this. For those who are new or who have forgotten, Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space has a great hint system. It is very hard to get too stuck in this game, a press of a button can tell you all of the things that you can interact with.
It can even detect when you are stuck and throw a hint your way. You can change the hint settings so that they are not too frequent if you like. They also added in this driving mini-game which is a fun way to get from place to place. You can upgrade your car with some cool stuff too. The driving stuff is optional so you do not have to do it if you do not want to.
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is just an awesome game and one of the best point-and-click titles ever made. From the start all the way to the end, it is a true joy to play. This remaster is so well done that I would say it makes the original release completely irrelevant.
