I got into Terraria thanks to my son many years ago on the Xbox 360, but soon made the jump to PC. Well, once you have played the game on PC there is no going back to console and the reason for that is mods! Today we are checking out the tModLoader which is a fantastic bit of software, DLC, or whatever you want to call it that allows you to use fun mods with Terraria.
How to Download tModLoader
This is free to use and you can download it directly from STEAM. To download the tool, click on the Download button at the end of the review.
The Program Review
The first thing I liked about this mod was that it gets treated as a separate version of Terraria. This means you can play vanilla Terraria if you want or you can load this one up and have all the crazy mods. There is no messing around with files or anything like that required to go back to the original.
This has a mod browser and you simply go through that to find a mod that you think sounds interesting and add it. I found this to be one of the easiest modding things I have ever used. I have tried to use mods in other games such as Stardew Valley and had to resort to watching about 10 video guides, nothing like that is needed here.
What can I expect when it comes to the actual mods? Well, there is not enough space in this review for me to tell you all of the fun mods that tModLoader can provide you with! You can have something like the Extensible Inventory Mod which gives you wany more space in your backpack to store stuff.
Then we have mods such as the Calamity and Thorium mods which add in new characters, bosses, NPC’s biomes, and so on. So much stuff can be added with certain mods that it is almost like you are playing a brand-new version of Terraria. You can easily lose hours and hours of your time messing around with these mods.
It is worth noting that while you can still play Terraria with your friends if you are using this. In order for you to do so, your buddies also need to have the tModLoader and the mod you are using installed to play with them. To be fair, this is not a big deal and I would probably have been more surprised if this was not the case.
I think that the tModLoader is an awesome way to breathe new life into Terraria. No matter if you are a hardcore Terraria player or someone who played it, but then dropped off. This is something that is going to provide you with hours and hours of fun and you can get so much out of it without spending a penny!
