Diablo

Diablo was a game that I long admired when it was first released back in 1996. I never actually played the first game in the series on PC, only PlayStation. Now though I can play the original Diablo in all its glory as Blizzard and the folks at GOG have worked together to re-release the original Diablo!

How to Download Diablo

The original Diablo game can be downloaded from GOG.com. You are also welcome to read MadDownload.com’s reviews of the not less famous sequels: Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. TO begin your download click on the button below the review.

The Game Review

Diablo from a story point of view is not all that deep. The game is set in an old-timey looking place called Tristram. In this place, people are going missing and there is all manner of weird creatures roaming around. Turns out that the church is not actually a church, but an opening for all kinds of evil creatures to make their way into our world! The story is good, but you do want more.

The game puts you in the role of a hero who takes on the challenge of entering the depths of what is inside this church to put these creatures back in their place. As I said this is not the most in-depth story I have come across, but for 1996, I think it well and truly deserves a pass. Plus at the end of the day, it gives you a reason to be kicking some serious monster ass.

You only have a choice of three character classes in the game. You can be a warrior, a sorcerer or a rogue. As you would expect each class has its own skills, abilities, attacks, advantages, and disadvantages. I like playing as the warrior as this is a more in your face all-out attack kind of way of getting through the game.

In Diablo, you are going around different areas like dungeons, caves and even hell. You will come across hordes of enemies that you need to take down. The control is very easy to get the hang of when it comes to combat. You attack with the left mouse button and then you cast your spells with the right one. It is a very easy system to learn and the ease of access is part of what makes the game so much fun.

You get your XP from killing different monsters and you can of course level up which will make you stronger. Speaking of making your stronger, you can get loot in the game that will help you in this regard as well. For example, getting a shield that will grant you more strength or an item that will help increase your magic.

The presentation of the original Diablo holds up better than you would think. You have to keep in mind that this is a 20 plus year old game at this point, but I do like the monster designs and the game in my experience never slowed down even when there were a ton of monsters on the screen at the same time.

I love the sound design in this game! There are some really strange ambient sound effects. You can hear things like monsters making strange and creepy noises or screams from their victims and it really does help add to the tension of the game.

The new version of the original Diablo that has been released allows you to play it just the way it was back in 1996. Or there is an updated version that has fixed some of the bugs and is also made with being compatible with Windows 10 in mind. So you are getting the best of both worlds with this new release.

I think that Diablo is still a really fun game. Of course, the sequels would expand upon this in every way. However, I do feel that this is still worth a play through. The original Diablo can be quite pricey, but this new version can be had for ten bucks which is a fantastic deal.
