The game is similar to Fallout 3 in terms of graphics and mechanics, but it is not a direct continuation.
How to Download Fallout: New Vegas
The game is available for download from the Steam platform and from GOG.
The Story
It is 2281 – 204 years after the great war between China and the United States, which brought the world almost to annihilation, finally ended. Las Vegas is now renamed to New Vegas where three major factions fight for influence:
- Caesar’s Legion – modeled after the army of the ancient Roman Empire. It is an organization of slave hunters led by a gentleman called Caesar. They use a banner with a golden bull on a red background, their motto: Under the sign of the bull, you will win.
- New California Republic – A democratic federation of cities from Northern California. The capital of NCR is the city of the same name, formerly known as Shady Sands. It has the highest number of troops in Fallout: New Vegas.
- Mr. House – the founder and the ruler of New Vegas who owns Lucky 38 Casino and is also the founder of RobCo Industries. He commands an army of securiton robots, who control the city.
In addition, in the game you will find: Boomers who settled in the Nellis Air Base, a gang of escaped convicts, Grand Chains – the doubles of Elvis Presley and the Brotherhood of Steel, which are the remnants of the American army.
Fallout: New Vegas – The Beginning of the Game
You start off as a courier who works for Mojave Express. You are attacked by a villain Benny when delivering an item called Platinum Chip. The bandit leaves you to die but the witness of this crime is a nice securiton robot Victor, who takes you to Dr. Mitchell in Goodsprings. After recovering and you embark on a journey through the wasteland to find the mobster and take back the shipment. This is how the adventure begins. The rest of the story will be written by you.
The series had also three spin-offs. In 2001, a turn-based tactical strategy Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel was released. 2004 saw the console-only title Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. In 2015 just before Fallout 4 hit the shelves the mobile players could play a simple life in the vault simulator Fallout Shelter. This game was also later ported to PCs.
The Gameplay
In Fallout: New Vegas we can freely explore the world, complete quests, develop our character, trade, and collect better and better equipment and weapons. We must watch out for enemies, monsters, and radiation. The character development is very quite intricate and we choose which factions we want to join. The interesting battle system known as V.A.T.S. allows us to stop time and aim at the selected place on the opponent’s body. For this not to be too easy, action points limit what we can do. We can also hire helpers who will assist us along the way.
We use the Pip-Boy, which is the player’s interface. The atmosphere of the game is spiced up with a virtual radio that we can listen to during the game.
