The Game Review

On the main menu, the game only offers a single-player mode in the form of the campaign. However, in the campaign mode, players have the option to either play the original narrative or jump to a storyline which follows two of the game’s main antagonists.

The campaign is a story which follows Shining Dragon Irvan, also known as Yuma Irvan. The game has seven playable characters which are all linked to each other through the storyline. The playable characters include Yuma Ilburn, Sonia Blanche, Kirika Town Alma, Agnam Bulletheart, Rinna Mayfield, Lesty Sera Alma, and Marion Lu Shila.

Yuma Ilburn is the game’s main protagonist and the character whom the whole story revolves around. Yuma is the surviving dragon whose existence affected the way the world came about. Yuma is also the major character that players play with throughout their journey.

Sonia Blanche is considered the lighting princess of the kingdom of Astoria.

Kirika Towa Alma is an elf who plays a supporting character as her main role is to heal others.

Agnam Bulletheart is another supporting character, and also similar to an older brother to the main protagonist, Yuma.

Rinna Mayfield is a witch who performs wind magic along with carrying a wind instrument called Dragon Spine Tran Rod.

Lesty Sera Alma is a knight who controls a group of elven troops. He is also Kirika’s old brother.

Marion Lu Shila is a member of the Beowulf and is initially an enemy but later on teams up with the main protagonist. She possesses a demonic dragon eye and has two unique personalities that contradict each other.

Apart from that, there are other playable characters as well such as Excela Noa Aura, and Jenius Aeon which can be unlocked as the game progresses.

Moving on to the combat system, Shining Resonance Refrain has different characters perform different attacks according to their personalities. There are standard attacks which can be performed by everyone. Then comes an attack which is character-specific. The basics are easy to get used to, but the game adds special attacks called force abilities. Forced abilities are basically dependant upon what kind of forces that the character has equipped. On the other end, players also have the ability to dodge or simply defend the attacks that are coming at them. Players earn experience after completing objectives and defeating enemies through which they can level up and in-turn, become stronger in terms of both offense and defense.

Overall, Shining Resonance Refrain is a game full of action and adventure. The storyline is also very intriguing which makes the players interested in playing until they manage to finish the storyline.
