The Game Review
You are not a hero, you are not a villain, you are a survivor! That is the tag of the game and it gives you a good idea of the kind of story you are in for. In The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos, we play as Marvin, a man who has come to Archolos seeking refuge after the war came to his home.
The story can go in many directions and you ultimately get to decide what kind of person Marvin will be. I am pretty sure those who are familiar with the Gothic lore will benefit greatly as from what I understand a lot of time and effort has gone in to make the story here fit in with the already established lore of the series.
A huge part of what is going to really make the story have some weight is the voice acting. It is crazy to me that a mod like this has better sounding voice acting than many top-tier games! The visuals are what you would expect from the game, given that it is a mod, but I got a kick out of the old-school look of the game, to be honest with you.
The amount of content that they have included here is truly mind-blowing. We are talking Skyrim levels of content here as they claim there is 60 plus hours of content! With over 170 quests to take on and different ways for you to go about completing them, The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is a game that is going to keep you very busy.
For me, games like this are best when you have nothing else you want to play as they really do demand all of your attention. To keep you on your toes, over 200 random events have been created too and you never know when these will pop up. It is a fuller and richer experience than what many full-priced RPGs are offering these days!
As far as the core gameplay goes, they have played around quite a bit with things. To start with there are over 100 new weapons and pieces of armor that you can make use of. There is a deeper and more fun crafting system. They have also put a ton of work into rebuilding the economy and item stats based on feedback from fans of the Gothic series.
The fact that The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is made by fans is just incredible. It is perhaps one of the most ambitious mods ever created and the fact it is free is crazy. Even if you do not already have Gothic II, it is like 8 bucks or so and that is a steal in itself. This is truly fantastic in every way; it could not be any easier to recommend.
