World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

It is crazy to think that World of Warcraft has been around for around 16 years at this point! It is one of the staples of gaming and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the eighth expansion pack to be released. While many things have stayed the same with this expansion, a few huge changes have been added which may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view.

The Game Review

The story is taking us to the Realm of the Dead. As the barrier that separates the realm of the dead and the realm of the living was destroyed, it is up to you to try and bring order to the realms to stop the chaos that is happening.

Shadowlands as you would expect features many new areas for you to explore. The new hub of the world is called the City of Oribos and it is pretty cool. As well as this the expansion features five main areas for you to go and explore, do quests, get loot, and so on, all the stuff you would expect in a World of Warcraft expansion.

As I write this it is far too early to say for certain how good this expansion is. I doubt many if anyone knows what the endgame is just yet, but we can focus on what the game is like right now. If you liked any of the last 3 or 4 World of Warcraft expansions, you are going to like this, it is that simple.

You still will be going from area to area, completing main and side quests, getting new loot, playing with others, and so on. The big change that they have brought to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the leveling system. There is a level squish here that sees everyone who is level 120 the current cap reduced to level 50, with the new cap being level 60.

As you would expect the reaction to this is very, very mixed. I for one do not care too much, but I can see why a hardcore WOW player may not be too thrilled about this. Players new to WOW will start at level 1 in a new starter zone and once they get to level 10 they can do new expansions, once they reach level 50 they can then play Shadowlands. It feels like they are very welcoming of new players.

Shadowlands is adding in eight new dungeons for the game. Four of these dungeons will happen as you are leveling up and then the other four will be available once you reach the level 50 cap. There is also a new raid where you take on 10 bosses, and the storyline of this sounds pretty awesome.

Another new feature is called The Tower of the Damned. The Tower of the Damned is a rogue-like dungeon that is endless with changing enemies and layouts each time you play it. There are more character customization options too so those of you that like to tinker with your characters are able to do so even more now.

While it is still early days for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, I have to say this is shaping up to be a fantastic expansion. It features a lot of new content and I like the way it is so welcoming to new players. If you are a fan of WOW, it goes without saying that you will have a lot of fun with this.
