PuTTY 0.77

I have to start by telling you that using PuTTY is free and it is open source so if what this is offering sounds interesting to you, you should give it a look. If you need to connect to remote systems, you are just the kind of person that is going to find this software very useful. The average joe will probably not have a need for this, but many people who work in the tech industry get a lot of use out of this.

The Program Review

The idea of PuTTY is that it can make it very easy for you to connect to another remote system. The kind of people that this is aimed at are network engineers, all kinds of developers, and system administrators. In other words, this is for people who may need remote access to a network or specific computer.

You can use something directly in Windows to connect remotely, but it is a royal pain in the butt, plus you will still have to download something! With PuTTY, you are making your life so much easier. It is really cool the way that this has been designed to be as simple to operate as possible. Granted, you do have to have some tech know-how to use this, but if you work in any of the fields, we just mentioned you probably do!

To give you an example of how easy this is to use. All you need is the IP address and the port number and PuTTY will handle the rest. You can actually save the session so that PuTTY will remember the IP and port so that next time you can connect even faster. It is worth noting that PuTTY while being easy to use has a ton of more advanced options.

As is the case with any software like this, people who will use it will want to know what protocols it supports. PuTTY supports the following protocols, serial communications, Telnet, SSH, SCP, SFTP, Rlogin, and xterm. That is quite the list and anyone who deals with remote access will probably be more than happy with this list.

One thing that you may read about this is that your connection can get timed out. To be fair, a connection will only become timed out if you are not doing anything for an extended period of time. So, if you are working and need to have your lunch, chances are the connection will be timed out. If you are just taking a quick 5-to-10-minute break to go to the bathroom, your connection should be fine.

Anyone who works in the tech industry and needs remote access to a computer, network, router, or whatever will find PuTTY very useful.  The way it is easy to use, but it does come with more advanced features is great. This ensures that it is going to be something that most people are able to use.
