Netflix does adult humor incredibly well so I was very excited when America: The Motion Picture was announced. Brought to us by director Matt Thompson from an insane script written by Dave Callaham. This is a gross-out comedy movie that tells a very different version of the American Revolution.

The Movie Review
So where to start with America: The Motion Picture? The basics of the movie are that after the Declaration of Independence is signed, traitor Benedict Arnold steals it and then kills Old Honest Abe! Abe makes his bro, George Washington promise to lead the revolution and to call this country America!
As you can see, this is a movie that is not meant to be taken seriously. I love the whole super patriotic dude-bro George Washington (played by Channing Tatum) thing that is going on here. It is a completely over-the-top and crazy retelling that starts off with a major bang, whimpers out a bit in the middle, and then hits you with another huge bang to bring it to a close.
One of the things that I loved about America: The Motion Picture was just how crazy it all is. In order to lead this revolution, George has to put together an elite team of heroes. This team features people like Thomas Edison and Samuel Adams, but they are certainly not like they were written in the history books, Edison is a woman for example!
It is funny stuff and we see them trying to do what they can to take down Arnold, who by the way has the ability to turn into a wolf! If they can do this then America will be born and those pesky British will leave with their tails between their legs! I got a real kick out of a large portion of the movie, but I do feel they could have probably cut 10 to 15 minutes and it would have been better for it.
As I said, the start and end are awesome, but it does lose a bit of momentum in the middle of the movie. America: The Motion Picture is not the kind of movie you want to watch if you are easily offended. It is low-brow humor and it revels in that; and in all honesty, I got a kick out of how “in your face” the whole thing was.
They put together a great voice cast here. I already mentioned Channing Tatum, but he is joined by the likes of Jason Mantzoukas, Olivia Munn, Judy Greer, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, and Simon Pegg. They put together a hilarious cast and from the voices alone, you can tell they were all having a great time making this movie!
I would not say that America: The Motion Picture is the best Netflix comedy they have done, but I still had a lot of fun with it. It truly is low-brow humor and if you get a kick out of that sort of thing, you are in for a good time here. If you want to turn your brain off and just have some fun, you could do a lot worse than this!
