American Underdog is a sports movie about NFL star, Kurt Warner. I will admit that I am not an American football fan, but I do like sports movies and this one really got to me! This is such an inspirational and emotional story that I was on the edge of my seat wanting to see Kurt succeed.

The Movie Review
I am sure if you are familiar with Kurt Warner and his journey, it may not have had that same impact. However, I would still wager that even those very familiar with the story of Kurt Warner and his Super Bowl triumph will be hit in the feels by this movie. The movie is directed by Andrew and Jon Erwin and they really did a great job bringing this story to life.
So, what is the movie about? Kurt Warner is a college football player who has a very specific dream. He does not just want to be in the NFL he wants to be a Super Bowl MVP. He has a very rocky road to getting to the NFL as he does not make it at first and has to live a normal and hard life.
His life is made easier and more dramatic when a very special woman called, Brenda comes into it. One of the things that American Underdog does very well is to have a great balance when it comes to football and Warner’s personal life. You do not just want to see this man make it on the football field, you want to see him have a good personal life too. The movie does a wonderful job of making him a very likable guy.
Again, I am not familiar with Kurt Warner outside of this movie, but it certainly made me take an interest in him. From what I understand the movie does a great job in bringing this story to the mainstream and those who are familiar with him as a player seem to be very happy with his portrayal here.
I think a huge reason why he is so easy to get behind is because of the performance of Zachary Levi who plays him. I am a big fan of his and it is crazy to think that “Toby” from Alvin & the Chipmunks is now such an acclaimed and accomplished actor. He really does a great job here and as I said, I so wanted this movie to have a happy ending!
The whole cast does a great job in this movie. We also get a great performance from Anna Paquin who plays his wife Deborah, not to mention Denis Quaid who plays his coach in the NFL who sees something special in him. I just love the way that the cast is so believable in their roles, it made it so easy to get sucked into this story.
This is such an awesome movie and one that I really did have a great time watching. It is inspirational, it has a lot of drama and I think that it does a great job of showing what a good man Kurt Warner is. You do not have to be a football fan or even a sports fan in general to enjoy American Underdog.
