It was like people wanted to hate Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom before it even came out! The hype for this movie was dominated by Amber Heard and the fact that the movie was delayed to try and remove her from it as much as possible. I have to say, I found this to be a really fun movie and I have no idea why it got so many negative reviews!

The Movie Review: A Fun Follow-Up to the First Aquaman
I feel that if you enjoyed the first Aquaman movie, you will probably like this too, I would not say that it is as good as that first movie, but I still enjoyed myself. Put it this way, I have checked a few times already to see if the 4K has gone up for pre-order as I do want to see this again!
Aquaman is trying his best to juggle his life as the ruler of Atlantis and also being a father. Being king is not what he thought it would be and things are much more political than he would like. He wants to reveal Atlantis to the world and try to help those on the surface stop the damage they are doing to the planet. However, there is a council that he must answer to and they are not keen on this idea!
Plot and Character Dynamics in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
The main plot of the movie is about a mysterious lost kingdom that was frozen in ice and time. Black Manta gets his hands on this cursed trident and tries to awaken this frozen kingdom with the promise that it will grant him the power to kill Aquaman. I actually like the plot, it is like a classic comic book story and it is just pure fun, it is not trying to be anything deep or meaningful, it is just a fun story.
The thing is, Aquaman cannot do this alone! He breaks his brother Orm out of prison and the two of them have to work together in order to stop Black Manta from awakening this lost kingdom and destroying the world! I think that Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson have fantastic chemistry and seeing Orm try to get used to things on the surface is pretty damn funny.
Visual Splendor and Entertainment Value
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has a good sense of humor and I know I have used this word about a million times already, but fun honestly is the best way to describe this movie. Now, much has been said about Amber Heard as Queen Mera and I do think that you can clearly tell she was supposed to have a much bigger role. However, with that being said, I do not think the movie suffers by them taking out what they took out. I am interested to see if her scenes make it to the home release of this.
One thing that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom deserves a ton of credit for is the way that it looks. This is one of the best-looking and most creative-looking movies of 2023! It has some fantastic CGI and in a year where some blockbusters had rather iffy-looking CGI, I never saw anything in this movie that stuck out like a sore thumb.

I know that the general consensus is that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was a bad movie, but I strongly disagree with that. I had a blast from start to end with this and it is a movie that flew by as I found it so entertaining. Do not listen to the stuffy pretentious critics, this is a fun time and I highly recommend you give it a chance.
