Who doesn’t love Idris Elba? Beast is an action movie that pits man against beast, but when we are talking about Idris Elba, it is pretty much beast vs beast! While not an amazing movie, this is a really fun time and a movie that the wife and I checked out as there was nothing else, we had not seen. It is a cool “popcorn” style of movie that has a lot of cool action going on.
How to Download Beast
You can download or stream the film from Peacock TV once some time passes since its theatrical release (19 August 2022). The Movie Review
The movie takes place in South Africa which gives the movie a rather unique look in comparison to other action movies released this year. Our main character is Nate Samuels who has taken his two teenage daughters to South Africa for a vacation. He has a bit of a strained relationship with his daughters, even more so now after their mother passed away.
Nate is hopeful that this trip will help bring him closer to his two daughters. Also, they are going to be visiting the village where their mother grew up so it will help them get to know her a bit better too. Now, they are going through some kind of wildlife preserve and they could not have picked a worse time to do so.
Before they know it, a massive lion leaps out and starts causing absolute chaos! The lion sees Nate and his kids as a threat to its territory and starts to stalk them with the intent of killing them. We basically have an hour plus of Nate and his family having to do what they can to survive and try to get out of this alive.
There are clear comparisons to Jurassic Park to be made here and I mean that as a very big compliment. There is nothing all that deep and meaningful going on with the plot here in Beast, but the movie still works. The cast really does deliver and as I said at the start, it is impossible not to love Idris Elba, even if the character of Nate Samuels is flawed, ultimately you can tell that he cares a great deal about his kids.
I will say that you do have to suspend your disbelief for the majority of this movie. I say this because some of the decisions the characters make are just completely stupid and I am sure some people will find that frustrating. I have even heard that the way the lion behaves is not exactly “realistic” however, it is an action movie so I will give them a pass for that.
Beast clocks in at around the 90-minute mark and that is the perfect time for a movie like this. I really do think that if they had tried to pad this out with more plot, the movie would not have been as enjoyable as it was. It is a movie that moves at a fast pace and that works to its advantage.
I am not sure I would say that Beast is a must-watch on the big screen kind of movie if I am being honest with you. However, we had a fun date night watching this and for a mindless survival/action movie it was pretty cool. When this eventually hits streaming, it is 100 percent worth your time checking out.
