I will admit that I was pretty ignorant of the true-life story that Bombshell is based on, but the movie made me want to learn more about it. Bombshell is a true-life drama about Fox News CEO, Roger Ailes, and the horrible working environment and sexual harassment that he ruled over while in charge. It is a pretty brutal story and by the end of it, I felt sick to my stomach by what this guy did.

If you like Charlize Theron check her out also in F9 (2021), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and Prometheus (2012). Nicole Kidman fans should watch her in The Northman (2022), Aquaman (2018), and The Others (2001). Lastly, if you are curious about Margot Robbie – she stars in The Suicide Squad (2021), Promising Young Woman (2020), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

The Movie Review

At the time I watched the movie I just had to take it as it was as I had next to no prior knowledge of these events. With that being said, I have heard some people complain about the accuracy of the movie and I guess if you were following this story closely, the inaccuracies may be an issue.

We get tremendous performance from Charlize Theron as Megan Kelly. Megan has an issue with one of the many horrible things that Donald Trump said and she calls him out on it. While some praised her for this, she was abused horribly by many others and due to pressure from her employer and Trump loyalists, she is forced to make up with him.

Gretchen Carson is played by Nicole Kidman. Gretchen’s career is being derailed thanks to the management at Fox and she is sick of the sexist and offensive way she is treated by Roger Ailes. She learns that she cannot sue Fox, but she can sue Roger Ailes and this is what really starts the case against him.

The other main character is Kayla Pospisil who is played by Margot Robbie. Kayla is much less willing to come forward to join the lawsuit, but ultimately, she does the right thing. The movie really does show what a sleazy guy Roger Ailes was and Jon Lithgow who I am a massive fan of plays him perfectly. This man usually is thought of for his more comedic roles, but he has amazing dramatic acting skills as well.

The movie is basically the story of these brave women who decide to come forward and try to take this evil and abusive man down. I found the whole movie to be something that really made me feel unconformable and got under my skin and I so wanted these women to nail this guy and bring him to justice.

However, we would find out that the women technically did win and Roger Ailes was let go by Fox News. However, the sickening part of this movie was that even though he got sued, he ended up getting a huge severance pay from Fox which was more than the women he harassed got in their settlement!

I will say that Bombshell is not the kind of movie I would probably watch again, but I did find it entertaining. This has a fantastic ensemble cast of very talented actors that bring this messed up story to life. If you like real-life dramas, you will probably enjoy watching this. The best compliment I can give it is that it made me want to learn about what really happened to all the people who were involved in this case.
