While I would not say that any of the Tyler Perry Madea movies are amazing some are just downright garbage. Boo! A Madea Halloween is not amazing, but it is probably one of the better Madea movies. That is not to say it is great or anything like that and I think the fact I have a soft spot for Halloween does make me like it more than I should, but I have watched this a couple of times and had fun with it.

Movie Review: A Madea Halloween Experience
Still, while I have said that I liked this movie if the whole Tyler Perry as Madea shtick is something you hate, nothing in Boo! A Madea Halloween is going to change your mind! It is just insane to me that we live in a world where we have a Madea cinematic universe and this one here was the eighth in the series.
Plot and Characters
This time around Brian is having a hard time with his teenage daughter Tiffany. Tiffany causes him a lot of headaches and pretty much has zero respect for her dad. Tiffany and her friends are walking past a frat house during Halloween when they are invited to a party and of course, Tiffany wants to go, but Briand says no.
Themes and Humor
Tiffany is a real spoilt brat and I pretty much hated her for like 95 percent of this movie, even when they tried to redeem her at the end I was not fully sold. Brian has some stuff to do so he calls in Madea to come and look after Tiffany and she brings Joe, Hattie, and Aunt Bam. The idea is that Madea and Co will be able to stop Tiffany from going to that Halloween frat party.
The underlying theme in Boo! A Madea Halloween is that of a father and daughter and a strained relationship between the two and I can get behind that. Surrounding it all is a bunch of Scooby Doo-style Halloween hijinks that I will admit, a few parts did get a chuckle out of me. The stuff where Madea thinks there are really ghouls and a killer clown is funny.
However, the movie starts to get a bit convoluted and in typical Madea fashion goes from one wacky scene to the next. The saving grace for Boo! A Madea Halloween at least for me is the Halloween setting. It is the kind of movie that can be fun to watch around Halloween due to the scenery. I referenced Scooby Doo before, but that honestly is the best comparison for the crazy stuff that is going on here.
I do feel that this has a bit more family substance than some of the other Madea movies. Tiffany is so mean to her dad, but his heartfelt speech about doing what he does for his family really hit home for me. However, the fact we had to see Tiffany being so unlikable for most of the movie did not make me soften towards her.
Final Thoughts on Boo! A Madea Halloween
Look, if you like the Madea movies, you will probably like this. There are way worse Madea movies than this one and this one is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, but it is still not a movie I will watch every Halloween season. Yet at the same time, I can see why someone would watch this and think that it is 100 percent pure garbage!
