Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village

I thought that 2020s Mugen Train Demon Slayer movie was fantastic. A huge part of what I liked about that was that while it was made for people that loved the anime, I felt anyone could watch it and have a good time. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village however is for hardcore Demon Slayer fans only in my opinion.

The Movie Review

To be fair, we do get a quick recap of the first season and the events all the way up to Mugen Train to try and fill those who are not into this in. However, they clearly expect people watching this to be caught up with season two which brings me to something very interesting about this “movie”.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village is not technically a “movie” you see what we have here are the last two episodes of season two and then the first episode of season three, put together to make a movie. It is cool to see the last two episodes on the big screen (well if you watched it in theatres) as well as get a look at the upcoming season 3 which will start in April.

The movie has our heroes Tanjiro, Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, and the rest taking on two very powerful demons, Gyutaro and Daki from The Upper Six. Most of the movie is the last two episodes of season two and this epic battle that sees the heroes victorious, but they pay a very heavy cost and we eventually do a time jump a few months later.

The coolest part of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village was seeing The Upper Rank Demons gather at the Infinity Castle to talk about what happened and plan what to do next. Again, you really do need to know about The Demon Slayer lore to get into this as I am sure those who are not would be completely lost, even with the recap at the start of the movie.

As you would expect, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village looks good. However, at the end of the day, this is done in the same style as the TV show and was not made to be a movie like Mugen Train was (well I do not think it was) so while it looks good, it may not blow you away the same way that Mugen Train did.

The action is great and the movie certainly gets you hyped up for season 3 and what the new weapon could mean. I think that putting this out in cinemas was a clever idea. It has made a nice amount of money and it probably has gotten fans even more excited for the new season.

If you like Demon Slayer you will like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village it is as simple as that. However, as I write this, I know it is no longer on at my local theatre so you will have to wait for the new season to air to see it. I am excited about the new season and I do hope that this movie gets a physical release and not just be left on the season 2 set and the inevitable season 3 set as individual episodes.
