I would be lying if I said I didn’t have bias towards Steven Soderbergh as a filmmaker. He has consistently been one of the quietest yet one of the most fantastic filmmakers since the 2000s started. He has had a long running streak of one amazing film after another, and it has kept on even now in 2022 with the release of Kimi. It’s a testament to the man as a director, he’s dipped his toes into every single sort of conventional thriller and came out triumphant.vOcean’s Eleven, Magic Mike, Logan Lucky, No Sudden Move, Unsane, Contagion and so many more.
However, most people don’t know this, but his streak of these fantastic projects one after another started with the release of a little known movie called Erin Brockovich.

The Movie Review
This is one of the few films that is based on real life, yet takes a lot of creative liberties that actually work. Despite those creative liberties being taken, the director makes sure that the film is 98% accurate to the events that occurred in real life. Erin Brockovich works as a legal assistant at a firm in Hinkley, California.
This is where she uncovers a dire company secret, something that has been affecting a ton of people and their well being. So, with the aid of her employer, Erin sets out on a quest to make the companies that are harming the residents of Hinkley pay for the damages they are causing.
Director Steven Soderbergh portrays eddins story in a way that it is traumatised, but not fictionalised completely. It is a story that you will find as a point to point retelling of the actual events, yet some of the dialogue is where the director took creative liberties good this is a formula that works really well, creating a film that is both a retelling of some horrific things done by a corporation, as well as the triumphant win of the legal justice system over these heinous acts.
Yet the autobiography aspect doesn’t hinder the film from being a fantastic retelling in its own right.
I have been saying this for the past decade, but Erin Brockovich is by far Julia Roberts is best performance in a film ever. Sure, she has done some fantastic films in her own right, he had this is the film you should go to if you’re looking for a performance from her that you will remember forever.

Steven Soderbergh is a master of his craft, so you know that the cinematography and shot composition in this film is going to be stellar. While it isn’t something revolutionary, the film has some decent shot composition and amazing lighting that give it a mood and intensity of a suspense film that you would want. It is also a romantic film at its core, so think of that while you go into it.
I absolutely adore the music and the sequences that it is added into, it truly provides for a Moody film that has an identity of its own.
The Bottom Line
In conclusion, Steven Soderbergh’s Erin Brockovich is by far the best film that Julia Roberts has been a part of. It is a film that mixes multiple elements such as autobiography, drama, suspense and romance into a film that is extremely unique, engaging and well acted.
It is a film made with a lot of passion, a lot of love and respect for the craft that is cinema. I recommend this film to everyone getting to know how to write autobiographies, while also getting an excellent film viewing out of it!
