The Crimes of Grindelwald is set in 1972 as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald escapes from a maximum security transfer facility held under the Magical Congress of United States of America (MACUSA).
Three months later, Newt Scamander gets an offer from the ministry of magic to restore his international traveling rights in exchange for helping them to locate the Obscurial Credence Barebone.
Newt denies initially but decides to go after Hogwarts professor Albus Dumbledore. Meanwhile, Grindelwald goes out on the hunt to Paris as well as he believes that the Credence is the one who can kill Dumbledore.
Newt encounters a couple of his American friends who reveal to him that his sister, Tina, is out searching for Credence as well. In Paris, Credence and a young female circus attraction called Nagini, search together to find Credence’s birth mother.
Tina meets Yusuf Kama who also appears to be searching for Credence. Soon, Tina and Yusuf meet up with Newt and Jacob (one of the two American friends of Newt) as they infiltrate the French Ministry of Magic to look for further information regarding Credence.
Grindelwald shows up and it is revealed that Queenie (the second of the two American friends of Newt) had been secretly working for him as she, along with Credence, join forces with him. A magical fight takes place inevitably defeating Grindelwald.
The film ends with Newt going back to Hogwarts and meeting Dumbledore where he reveals that a blood pact was made between him and Grindelwald hence, they can never duel one another directly.
