You know I think that Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare gets way too much hate. Granted I am a huge fanboy of this series, but I think that this movie is a lot of fun. Do not get me wrong, this has some dumb over-the-top stuff, but I get a huge kick out of it. At some points, it is almost like a parody of the series. This is the culmination of Freddy becoming a pop culture icon.

The Movie Review
The Plot Unfolds
This movie takes place ten years after the events of Part 5. Freddy has managed to kill most of the kids of Springwood, but there is one that he wants who managed to get away. A young man called “John Doe” wakes up after a confrontation with Freddy, but has no idea who he is or why he is there.
Introducing the Teenage Cast
John ends up being taken away to a shelter that is for troubled teens and this is where we meet the rest of our teenage cast. As well as John, we have Spencer who is a rich kid with a drug problem, Carlos who was beaten so badly by his mom, he is practically deaf and then we have Tracy who is a tough chick that was abused by her father. These three want out of this place and John is their ticket.
After a newspaper clipping about Springwood is found on John, the doctor decides to take a field trip there may jog his memories. Our other three teens decide to tag along and that is how they all end up in the town. Of course, this is exactly what Freddy wanted all along.
Unveiling the Twist
However, there is a twist as one of these teens is the child of Freddy and they may hold the power to defeat him once and for all. I think that they had some great ideas for the story with this movie. In addition to that, we find out how Freddy became what he is, from his trauma as a child to him making a deal with dream demons and that is how he is always able to come back to life.
The Quirky and Wacky Moments
Now, this is a very wacky movie. Hey, it is gory as hell as you would expect, but some of the kills here are hilarious. Freddy controls Spencer with a Power Glove like he is in a video game, while Freddy talks about how good the graphics are is awesome. Yet, on the flip side of this, we have how Carlos meets his end and it is way more brutal.
I will always be the first to admit that this movie does lean super hard into the comedy and wise-cracking Freddy, but I always have a lot of fun with that and get a kick out of it. The series had introduced humor many entries ago and as Freddy had grown to be more and more popular, it was only natural that they would go this far with it.
Final Thoughts
With Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare being intended as the last movie; I think that they did a good job bringing it to a close here. The cameos in this movie are awesome such as Alice Cooper being Freddy’s abusive foster dad and Johnny Depp even having a small cameo which longtime fans will really appreciate.
While the trilogy of 3, 4, and 5 is my personal favorite of the Nightmare of Elm Street series. You know, on its own, I do actually ever so slightly prefer this over part 5! I know that sounds crazy, but I think the kills in this one are more memorable than what we got in part 5. As part of the trilogy, 5 is awesome, but as a stand-alone movie, I have more fun with this.
I can certainly see why some people would say that Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare is just a pure dumb movie. However, this being a dumb movie is what I love about it! It has some of the most memorable moments from the franchise and if you do the legwork, you can find the 3D version of this which is just such a nostalgic blast to see, but it is hard to find and it is only on DVD, not Blu-Ray.
