The Film Review
The Plot
Released on 8th October 2018, Haunted Halloween focuses on the life of a young boy named Sonny, along with her older sister Sarah Quinn, and their mother Kathy.
Sonny and his friend Sam, in their attempts to open a garbage clean-up business, visit an abandoned house where they find a locked manuscript. The two inadvertently open the manuscript and recite the magic words to bring Slappy the Dummy to life.
Slappy initially gains the trust of both the boys by helping them with their chores and homework. Soon, however, Slappy uses his powers to sabotage Sonny’s science project thereby revealing his true evil nature.
He further goes on to a drug store and brings to life all the Halloween decorations and characters present there. Meanwhile, the two boys along with Sarah look up an article where they find information about similar events that occurred previously in Madison, Delaware.
They also use the article to contact R. L. Stine after finding out how the manuscript belonged to him but was never published.
Consequently, Stine travels to Wardenclyffe whereas the monsters released by Slappy steal the manuscript and kidnap Kathy at the same time. The kids move on to Wardenclyffe Tower where they encounter Slappy and realize how he has transformed Kathy into one of the dummies.
Sonny and Sam use the power of the reactor to reverse the effects of the book as Sarah defends them by fighting against Slappy. All of the monsters eventually are sucked back into the book as Stine makes it just in time to congratulate them on their victory.
The film ends with Slappy appearing in front of Stine in his cabin and revealing how he has created a separate manuscript before sucking him into it.
The Movie Production
Haunted Halloween is a family-friendly film which, along with being entertaining, spends most of its time playing around with numerous special effects.
The film possesses two distinct advantages over its first edition. The first being how the film is much more active and quicker to introduce the monsters to its viewers. Unlike the previous edition, Haunted Halloween brings out all the monsters within the first 15 minutes of the running time.
Secondly, with Sony Pictures Animation working on the film, the CGI quality is far greater in comparison, making the final sequence more intriguing to watch.
The Movie Soundtrack
The official soundtrack of the film is composed by Dominic Lewis and was released on 19th October 2018. The score album features over 20 unique soundtracks.
