While I had heard of the YouTuber, Markiplier, I had never actually watched any of his videos. However, the fact that he bet on himself and put everything he had into making Iron Lung made me want to check it out. A sci-fi horror movie that is based on a game, a game that I am now even more interested in playing. There was some good stuff here, sure it was not amazing, but I was still pretty entertained.

Iron Lung was released on January 30, 2026. As of the time on writing it is not available for streaming but it might change in the future, so it is possible you will be able to get it from Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV.
The Movie Review
I saw the trailer for Iron Lung, and I was intrigued right away. While it is not a found footage or faux documentary style of movie, Iron Lung did remind me of Europa Report. I love and I mean love Europa Report, it is one of my favorite space/alien movies of all time. Those were the vibes I was getting from the trailer for this, so it did make me excited to check it out.
Iron Lung story and sci fi horror premise
In the future, an event called the quiet rapture, planets and stars have vanished without a trace, and only those who were on a space station at the time have survived. That right there is a creepy premise, and it got my mind racing. I kind of liked how the movie did not give you all the answers, as the few characters that we do get to experience do not know the answers either.
Markiplier in Iron Lung
Our main character is a man called Simon. Simon is played by the YouTuber, Markiplier, and I felt that he did a good job here. Simon is a convict, and he is given the chance to head to a mysterious moon that has a sea of blood, inside a vessel known as the Iron Lung. His job is to explore this strange moon and try to find out what it is, why it is here, and just get more information about it.
Blood ocean tension and mystery in Iron Lung
Things are tense and claustrophobic as Simon is sealed into the sub from the outside, with just a camera there to help him see what is happening in this blood ocean. This blood ocean is awesome, and the things that Simon comes across are so damn cool, and I get not giving the audience all the information, but, I so wanted to know more about this place and what the hell that thing was!
Final thoughts on Iron Lung
In addition to the dangers that Simon is facing in this blood ocean. Simon realizes that this is not the first mission that has been sent to the blood moon! There is a solid air of mystery here, but the movie never really tells you anything. Sometimes this can be a good thing, but I was left wanting more. The premise is great, the acting is solid, and I think that they truly had something here.
However, the movie did feel like it ran a little long, and while I was invested while it was happening, when the ending happened, I was like “is that it?” as I wanted more. To be fair, I have never played the video game, but now that it is on PlayStation 5, I am going to give it a try, in the hopes that it fills things in a little more. Still, this was a decent time, and I would not be against watching it again. Perhaps I will pick up more on a second viewing?
