I thought that while the first movie was forgettable, it was fun while it lasted. However, never in a million years did I think that we needed a Murder Mystery 2! To be honest, I actually like this one better than the first. I think that it feels a bit more high budget and the murder mystery aspect of it is a bit more in-depth and well done.

The Movie Review
Analyzing the Sequel’s Direction and Writing
While James Vanderbilt returned to write the script, we have a new director Jeremy Garelick. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston return as do a few of the other cast members from the first movie and that is where one of the big problems I personally had with Murder Mystery 2 came from
Recollecting the First Movie’s Impact
I decided against watching the first movie again before sitting down to watch this and I was shocked at how little I remembered! I remembered characters like The Maharaja and Inspector Delacroix, but apart from their “faces” I remembered nothing about what they really did in the movie!
Standalone Quality of Murder Mystery 2
Now, with that being said, I never felt like I was missing out on anything and I do think that you could watch Murder Myster 2 without watching the first. Nick and Audrey Spitz are trying to make a go of it with their own detective agency, but despite them actually being decent detectives, their business is not exactly doing well!
Unveiling the Mystery in the Sequel
Vic “The Maharaja” from the first movie has invited Nick and Audrey to his big lavish wedding! Nick and Audrey feel like an appearance here could boost the profile of their business and as there is a murder at this wedding, turns out they were right. Yet, Murder Mystery 2 has a bit more “mystery” than just another murder.
The Kidnapping Twist and Character Dynamics
You see, Vic ends up getting kidnapped and there is a huge ransom demanded and the kidnapper wants Nick and Audrey to deliver the ransom. Nick and Audrey are not actually in charge, Connor Miller is a former MI6 hostage negotiator and he is the one leading things. The way he is with Nick and Audrey is actually pretty funny, I am a big fan of Mark Strong as he plays the same character in so many movies and he is very much typical Mark Strong here.
The Parisian Chase and Climax
Nick and Audrey have to go to Paris to make the drop off and that is where all hell breaks loose! They end up getting framed for the kidnapping so as well as trying to save their friend, they are also trying to clear their names as well. I will admit that I thought the whole whodunnit aspect of the movie was much better done here and when the final reveal came, it did come as a bit of a surprise.
The Aesthetic and Visuals of Murder Mystery 2
I also feel that Murder Mystery 2 is a much better-looking movie. We get to see some great parts of France again and the ending sequence in the Eifel Tower is fantastic, some of the best stuff I have seen in a Netflix Original movie. I think it is a real shame how hardly anyone talks about how good-looking this movie is.
Comparing Both Movies and Final Impressions
The original Murder Mystery was not bad, it was just pretty much instantly forgettable. Murder Mystery 2 I feel is a better movie in pretty much every regard. I will probably never watch the first movie again, but if I was in the mood for some fun whodunnit kind of action, I would certainly not be against watching this again.
