Pluribus

Brought to us by Vince Gilligan, who you will know as the brains behind Breaking Bad. Pluribis is a sci-fi show that was made for Apple TV, which came out towards the end of 2025. I saw the trailer, thought that it looked awesome, and with Vince Gilligan being the creator and Rhea Seehorn being the lead, who also worked with Gilligan in Better Call Saul, I was sure this would be a show that I would like.

Where to Watch Pluribus

Pluribus was released on November 7, 2025. You can stream the show from Apple TV.

The Movie Review

The thing is, Pluribis came out at a pretty bad time for me. I was already in the middle of a couple of other shows, and before I knew it, it was time to watch Christmas movies and shows. I decided to put Pluribis off until the new year, and now I am happy to say that I have finally seen it, and the fact that I binge-watched this in just a couple of nights lets you know just how much I liked this.

Right now, Pluribis is up there as the best show I have seen this year, and if I had watched this last year when it aired, it probably would have been my show of 2025! Now, before we go any further, I will say that I am going to try my very best to be spoiler-free here. By all means, watch the trailer and read the synopsis, but this is a show that is going to be so much better the less you know about it.

The Pluribus Story and Alien Hive Mind Concept

The basics of the story are that we find this message from outer space that contains some kind of instructions for making a virus. Of course, we have to try to replicate this virus, and when we do, it gets out and infects the planet! Turns out that this virus is part of a hive mind called The Others, and it has turned the majority of the planet into a super happy collective.

While most of the planet was taken over by The Others, lots of people died, but there are a handful of others who are immune to this alien virus and are not part of the hivemind. Our main character is a writer called Carol, and she is one of the few who are immune and not part of the hivemind. She returns home to Albuquerque with her partner and is thrust into this new, weird world.

Life Among The Others in Pluribus

No spoilers, but The Others are not this tyrannical force that will force Helen and the others into joining them. While they are fully upfront that they want them to join the hivemind, and they are trying to find ways to make it happen. Until then, The Others are there to meet their demands and try to make them happy. If Helen or one of the other immune people wants something, The Others will make it happen.

Helen is teamed up with one of The Others, called Zosia. Zosia is kind of like the representative for the Others, and she and Helen spend a lot of time together. Helen tries to live in this strange new world and figure out what she should do with the situation that she is in. Honestly, I am not doing the show justice; it is just the kind of thing you have to watch for yourself to appreciate. If you enjoy sci-fi shows, I see no way that you will not be fully invested like this. The bad news is that, as of writing, a second season has not been greenlit, but I hope by the time you are reading this, it has.
