Released in 1981, you could easily make the argument that it was Porky’s that was responsible for the boom in teen/high school/college movies that were huge in the 80s and 90s. Porky’s was a huge hit and for a very long time was a real cult classic and classed as one of the best of the genre. Interestingly, opinions have changed and people see it as kind of creepy and untasteful, but to be fair, it is a gross out comedy so I am not sure how this is any worse than something like Superbad.

The Movie Review
Watching Porky’s as an Adult
My experience with Porky’s is that I saw this when I was way, way too young to see this. I remember having a friend explain to me why Meat was called Meat…. Yeah. However, I do think that seeing this as young as I did is probably why I still have a fondness for it and why it still gets a few laughs out of me today. Yet, I can see why it will seem very dated and not as funny for people watching it for the first time today.
The Plot of Porky’s
The story of Porky’s is quite simple. It is about a group of high school seniors who are looking to get laid. Our main group consists of Pee Wee, Meat, Billy, Tommy, Mickey, and Tim. They decide to head to the famous Porky’s which is a strip club and here they can hire a prostitute so that they can get laid. It is a wild adventure and the camaraderie of the guys is fun and a huge highlight of the movie.
Things do not go as planned at Porky’s. Porky screws them over, takes their money, and dumps them in the swamp, making things worse is that Porky’s brother is a cop and he takes the rest of the guy’s money and embarrasses them further. This leads to guys taking revenge on Porky and well, let’s just say that Porky’s needs some major work once they are done getting their revenge!
The Most Infamous Scene in Porky’s
There are so many great scenes in this movies, but one of the most iconic scenes is the scene as the creepiest these days. The boys cut a peephole in the girls’ locker room and end up getting caught. Tommy decides to take things a step further and sticks his penis through the hole, leading to ruthless female PE teacher, Miss Balbricker grabbing it and going on a crusade to find the guy who has a mole on his penis!
The Lassie Scene – A Comedy Highlight
One of my favorite parts of the movie is the subplot between two young teachers, Coach Bracket and Coach Honeywell, Coach Honeywell is played by a young Kim Cattrall. Seeing Coach Bracket find out why Coach Honeywell is referred to as “Lassie” is hilarious stuff and one of the most memorable parts of the movie for me.
The Forgotten Porky’s Video Game
Before we close this off, I do want to talk about the Porky’s video game. That is right, there is a Porky’s video game where you play as Pee Wee as you try to blow up Porky’s. There was a thing back in the 80s where we got various Atari 2600 video games based on movies that were made for adults. It may seem weird to think about now, but as well as games based on movies like Porky’s there were also actual porn games made for the Atari 2600 so when you think about that, Porky’s on Atari 2600 makes sense.
Final Thoughts – Is Porky’s Still Worth Watching?
I watched this for the first time in a very long time recently and I think that it is still a fun movie. Porky’s is best described as a product of its time, for better or worse. I had fun with this, but I saw it when I was younger in the early 90s. I do think that Pork’s has been surpassed by many other raunchy teen comedies such as American Pie and Superbad, but even with that being said, Porky’s still managed to get more than a few laughs out of me.
