To say that Tom Holland nails being Peter Parker and Spidey in Spider-Man: Far From Home is a massive understatement. As one of summer 2019’s big blockbusters, this is a movie that had a lot of eyes on it. I can say right off the bat that this is one of the most fun movies of 2019 and a great follow-up to Avengers: Endgame.

The Film Review
This is a spoiler-free review so do not worry, nothing you have not already seen in the trailer will be revealed. The basics of the story are that Peter is still struggling to deal with the death of Tony Stark and he feels that this summer vacation school trip is just the way to do that. He can spend time with MJ and also get a break from having to save the day as Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is a very, very fun movie. It does a great job in showing Peter Parker as a high school teenager and dealing with liking a girl. Something most folks who are watching will be able to relate to in one way or another. He thinks he is finally going to get to spend some quality time with MJ… when Nick Fury shows up.
Quintin Beck, AKA Mysterio shows up and warns of an attack by four elemental beings that destroyed his version of Earth. Fury, wants Spidey to help, but Peter just needs some time to be a kid. You can tell that Peter knows that he cannot ignore this and he ends up “working” with Mysterio to once again save the world.
Jake Gyllenhaal as Quintin Beck/Mysterio is fantastic. He is a very interesting character and one that thankfully the trailers have not spoiled too much. Peter is desperate for a new mentor and it is kind of heartbreaking to see this. All over Europe on this trip, Peter is reminded that Tony is gone and it is pretty sad.
Speaking of Europe as this is a vacation/road trip kind of movie. Spider-Man: Far From Home looks great. They go to some very interesting locations and Venice, Prague and especially London have some truly epic Avengers level action scenes. The whole movie looks a million bucks, but it is awesome the writing and acting matches up.
The on-screen chemistry between Peter and MJ is great, as is once again Peter and his buddy Ned. I will admit that I cringed when Zendaya said that people called her MJ at the end of Spider-Man Homecoming. However, her performance is so good and she is so good with Tom Holland that you forget that she is a very different kind of MJ.
I really cannot praise, Spider-Man: Far From Home highly enough. This is an excellent and fun movie. I really like how it fills in some of the blanks about what happened after the “snap” in Avengers Endgame. For me, this is one of the best movies of 2019 and one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made. I really cannot wait to see more Spidey from this series.
