The Devil’s Hour

Wow is probably the best word to describe The Devil’s Hour. This thriller had me and my wife hooked, so much so that we ended up watching all six episodes over one weekend! This is an Amazon Prime original and one of the best that they have done so far, this is a spoiler-free review as the less about the details you know, the better it will be for you!

The Movie Review

This is a British TV show and while this may sound controversial, I think this may be one of my favorite British TV shows of all time. Sure, the show is fresh in my mind as I write this, but that was how much impact this show had on me. This is not the kind of show you can be messing around on your phone while you watch it, it demands your full attention.

I will also say that the first episode (maybe the first two actually) may seem hard to follow and you will not feel like you know what is happening. This is by design and it will all click for you eventually. Trust me, stick with it, the payoff is massive and the show will stick with you for days after you are done with it.

So, what is The Devil’s Hour all about? It is kind of hard to talk about without spoiling it, but I am going to try. We have a social worker called Lucy that lives with her son Isaac who has some emotional issues. The acting by Jessica Raine and especially young Benjamin Chivers is nothing short of amazing. There is a scene with Isaac that sent shivers down my spine!

The plot of the show is very intriguing. Lucy wakes up every day at 3:33 AM and has these horrific and scary visions during the devils hour which is the hour between 3 and 4 AM. She has a real sense of Deja Vue all the time and feels like there is something wrong with her house too. Add to this her personal troubles with her son, mother, and ex, it all is a lot to deal with.

That is not all! There is a man called Gideon Shepard who is the “criminal” of the show and let’s just say he has a very special thing going on with time and he is being hunted by a detective. There is a murder mystery thing going on here that somehow has Lucy and Isaac involved!

Trust me, that is all you need to know about the plot, this is a show that you need to experience spoiler-free if you can as it is such a mind-blowing kind of show, especially that ending. Speaking of which, I love the way things are wrapped up here. Yet, there are many things that could be addressed in the upcoming second season!

The Devil’s Hour is one of the best shows that I have seen over the last couple of years. It completely took me by surprise and I am sure I will have watched all six episodes again before 2023 is over. If you love thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat and always guessing, they do not get much better than this.
