The Strangers: Chapter 2

I have to be honest, The Strangers: Chapter 2 was not all that great, but I did really enjoy The Strangers, and I felt that The Strangers: Pray at Night was a decent slasher-style movie as well. Still, with how much I was not into Chapter 1, I was debating if I even wanted to go and see the second part. Well, I was bored and it was the only new thing on at my theatre, so I thought I would go and check it out.

Where to Watch The Strangers: Chapter 2

The Strangers: Chapter 2 was released on September 26, 2025. In several months from now you should be able to stream it from digital platforms such as Prime Video or Apple TV.

The Strangers: Chapter 2 Review – A Slasher That Misses the Mark

You may not be aware of this, but The Strangers: Chapter 2 is part of a trilogy that was all shot at the same time. I find this interesting. When I saw Chapter 1, the theatre was dead, and I actually saw Chapter 2, opening weekend, and it was not even a quarter full! I think that they got very lucky; they got funding to make this trilogy, as I am sure the plug would have been pulled after the first one.

Anyway, let’s get to the movie. Oh boy, this is the worst movie that I have seen in a theatre this year! The Strangers: Chapter 2 is worse than the first one; it has pretty much every horror/slasher trope that you could imagine, and it feels like one of the most unoriginal movies I have ever seen. I love horror and slasher movies, and seeing the same cliché stuff over and over again can be fun, but this just feels so by the numbers and, dare I say, boring.

A Promising Start That Fades Fast

To be fair, it started off pretty well. It starts a few years before the main event of the movie, and we get to see The Strangers stalk and kill a dude. This opening actually got me pretty pumped up that this could be a much better movie than what we got with The Strangers: Chapter 1. However, that did not last, and even the beauty that is Madeline Petsch could not save this.

Maya’s Return and a Frustrating Follow-Up

We start, well, not counting the intro, right after the events of the first movie, and Maya is in the hospital after dealing with The Strangers and the biggest villain of the first movie, her moron boyfriend Ryan. Ok, we are talking about the sequel here, but off the top of my head, I am having a hard time thinking of a character I have hated in recent years as much as Ryan in the previous movie! Back on topic, the authorities are not taking her story all that seriously, and you can tell there is something of a cover-up happening.

Hospital Escape and Forest Terror

Well, The Strangers do not take too kindly to Maya getting away, and they start stalking her at the hospital. Maya escapes, ends up in a car with a bunch of people, before freaking out and running into the woods. Where, once again, she is stalked by our Strangers. They try to add some backstory to the characters here, but honestly, I did not care. Sure, there are some gnarly kills, and the movie does not make you wait too long between them. However, it just all felt so uninspired and pretty boring.

Visual Issues and Laughable CGI

Also, this movie is shot really darkly, making it hard to see sometimes, but one thing I did clearly see was one of the worst CGI animals that I have ever seen in a movie! This was a total bust, I hated it, and if it were not for the fact that I had a feeling I was not going to love this, so I stocked up on an insane amount of snacks, potentially causing a diabetic coma during the movie, this would have been a total waste of my Saturday afternoon.
