I know I am not exactly in the majority when I say this, but 1999’s The World Is Not Enough is my all time favorite James Bond movie. This is the third time that Pierce Brosnan would play Bond and they were just cranking these Brosnan led Bond movies out at a great rate and so far, I would have to say that they are three for three. Tomorrow Never Dies was a lot of fun, but I think this is the ultimate Brosnan Bond movie for most, even if they do not rank it as high as I do overall.

The Movie Review: What Makes This Bond Film Stand Out
From start to end, this is one super fun thrill ride and it has who in my opinion is the hottest Bond girl of all time, Dr Christmas Jones played by Denise Richards. Now, you could argue that she is only called Christmas just so they could get the famous (or infamous depending on how you look at it) line “I thought Christmas only comes once a year” but I think it is hilarious and a lot of fun.
The Plot and Characters in The World Is Not Enough
No spoilers here as The World Is Not Enough has a really fun plot. At the center of it all is a former KGB agent called Renard who is now a terrorist. Renard is played by Robert Carlyle and he is just amazing in this role. He is an absolute classic Bond villain and I love how he has a “gimmick” where he was shot in the head and now he no longer feels pain! I always find it a lot of fun when a Bond villain has something a little “extra” about them.
Now, it is not just a case of Renard wanting to see the world burn, do not get me wrong, that is there. However, we also have another character in Elektra King who is played by Sophie Marceau. Elektra is the daughter of an oil tycoon who is murdered and Bond is tasked with protecting her, she has also been the victim of a kidnapping by Renard in the past. Elektra is not exactly what she seems and I think that she is a very fun character.
Action-Packed Thrills and Iconic Locations
Without going into too much detail, Bond and Dr. Jones have to work together to save the day from a nuclear meltdown in Turkey. This is a very action packed movie that has some gorgeous locations. I liked how we had more than one villain and while the plot may be a bit on the predictable side, I still think that it is very entertaining and a blast to watch.
A Nod to the Video Game Adaptation
Much like I did when talking about Tomorrow Never Dies, I want to talk about The World is Not Enough video game. The World is Not Enough Nintendo 64 game is better than GoldenEye, yes, I said that and I will die on that hill. It is just as much fun in the multiplayer mode, but the single-player story mode is so much more exciting and actually makes you feel like you are Bond. GoldenEye is an all time classic, one of the most important console first-person shooters of all time, but I have always felt that The World Is Not Enough is a better game. Sadly, the PS1 version is not as good as the Nintendo 64 version as it is missing the multiplayer and it has a few technical issues.
Why The World Is Not Enough Is My Top Bond Pick
If I were in a situation where I was in some real danger and James Bond showed up and he said that the only way to survive was to pick a Bond movie to watch, I would 100 percent pick The World Is Not Enough. In a less dramatic scenario, if I am in the mood to watch a Bond movie, it is always going to be this. From the start to the end, it is a movie that is exciting and makes me smile. It has the over the top and “campy” parts of classic Bond movies, but the more real and gritty modern Bond stuff too.
