Trolls: TrollsTopia

The Trolls franchise was a massive hit for DreamWorks and I felt that the two movies were decent and fun family movies. Like many DreamWorks movies, Trolls would end up getting the animated series treatment. This initially started with Trolls: The Beat Goes On, which was popular and ran for many seasons.

The Movie Review

The most recent series to be based on the hit movies is Trolls: TrollsTopia and that is what we are looking at today. This was actually a pretty big deal and was a huge hit for both Hulu and Peacock when it was released. This is a full-on sequel to the movie, Trolls: World Tour and it does follow on from the movie pretty well.

Trolls: TrollsTopia is done in the same 2D animated style that The Beat Goes On was. As well as looking similar to the past Trolls series, this also has much of the same voice cast too. While they were not able to get the likes of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake from the movies, at least they kept it consistent with the same voice actors from the previous animated series.

As it follows on from what went down in World Tour, Poppy is still trying to reunite the various Trolls’ tribes and she invites leaders from each tribe to come and live with her in a new city. The “leaders” are not the same ones that we saw in the movie, but to be honest, I am ok with that.

Each episode is full of fun hijinks and nothing ever takes itself too seriously. Like the movies and the previous animated series, music is a major theme in the show. There are all kinds of catchy songs in the show and they go great with the bright and colorful animation style that they have used here.

I do have to be honest and say that there is nothing too deep or meaningful on display here in terms of the story, but it is still fun for kids to watch and they could be watching a heck of a lot worse if you ask me as some of the newer kids TV shows I see are just pure garbage! This is 1000000 percent not a garbage TV show!

One thing that I have to give them a ton of credit for is how many episodes they have been able to crank out! Granted, these episodes (and the seasons) are short, but this show debuted in November 2020 and as of writing we have six seasons with a combined 41 episodes!

What I like about this is that it stops kids from getting bored. One of the “problems” with streaming is that when they throw a whole season up all at once, it usually means you have to wait a long time for the next season. That has not been the case with Trolls: TrollsTopia which keeps the kids interested and the parents from going too nuts having to watch the same episodes over and over again.

For younger kids, Trolls: TrollsTopia is going to be something that they love. If they enjoyed the last movie, they will love this! It is a fun and lighthearted way for them to keep the franchise going and like I said, there are far worse kid’s shows out there right now than this one here.
