Us is Jordan Peele’s follow up to the very entertaining Get Out. Going in it is near impossible not to compare the two movies at the very least at the back of your mind. However, Us is quite a different movie to what Get Out was and it is one heck of a wild and fun ride to be on.

The Movie Review
This Is A Spoiler Free Review
I really do not want to spoil anything major that happens in Us so anything that I do say has already been revealed by the trailers. The movie is about a regular family who takes a trip back to the main character Adelaide’s (Lupita Nyong’0) childhood beach home for a nice family vacation.
She has this very traumatic thing that happened to her as a child. It is something that she has never been able to shake and she has a feeling that something bad is going to happen to her and her family. Once at the beach house, it does not take long for strange things to start happening and the family finds themselves in a fight for survival.
What is really cool and interesting is that the people they are in a fight for survival against are themselves! I really cannot say any more as the movie is a lot of fun and the less of the finer details you know about it the more fun you will have while you watch it.
One thing that I do want to give special attention to is the start of the movie. The movie starts with a flashback to the 1980s when Adelaide is a child and she wonders off from her dad at a carnival and ends up in a hall of mirrors. This part is so well done, creepy and also a little weird that it sets the tone for what is to come.
The rest of the family who is played by Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Evan Alex do a great job and you do feel for them all the while you are wondering what the heck is going on. I do not think that the movie is as “elegant” as what Get Out was, but I also do not think it is supposed to be.
I tried my very best not to compare it to Get Out, but that is easier said than done and as I said earlier I bet most people will. I do feel that this is a bit of an unfair comparison as the movies for me have very different tones. I feel that Us is more of a flat-out horror movie than Get Out was.
It has some great jump scares, creepy moments, parts that make you say what? And it also has some humor as well. In many ways, I feel that this production has a kind of 80s horror movie feel to it and I mean that in a very complimentary way.
I do not think it is as easy to say for sure if it is better or not as good as Get Out. What I can tell you is that I thought that Us is a very fun movie and one that my wife and I had fun talking about for the next couple of days after we had seen it.
