We’re the Millers directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber is the kind of movie that I would describe as dumb and inoffensive fun. I have seen this a couple of times and it is a real guilty pleasure of mine! Actually, scrap that, this is not a guilty pleasure, it is just a fun comedy that is great if you want something silly and over the top to relax with.

The Movie Review
Setting Expectations for a Silly Comedy
This is not the kind of movie you watch if you are in the mood for something with real substance. I sometimes wonder what “professional” movie reviewers are expecting when they review a comedy like We’re the Millers! This delivers exactly what the premise and the trailer and the premise suggest! It gives you dumb and silly fun with a likable and talented cast.
The Ensemble Cast Brings the Fun
I do not know how anyone can say “I am going to sit down and watch We’re the Millers” and then complain that it is a dumb movie! We have a great main cast here with Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter. I like all four of these actors and they pretty much all play the roles that you would expect them to play.
A Pot Dealer’s Quirky Plan: Crossing Borders with a Fake Family
Jason Sudeikis plays the role of David. David is a likable and goofy pot dealer who deals for his college buddy and big-time drug dealer. David ends up getting robbed and his friend tells him that all will be forgiven if he takes a trip down to Mexico. This is not a normal vacation to Mexico, David needs to bring back a bunch of weed!
The Hilarious Journey Begins
David is worried about making it back across the border, but he has a great idea. David will hire people to pose as a family with him so that they can take an RV and there will be less chance that they will get stopped by border patrol. You know, this has to be something that people actually try and do, I wonder if it works?
He hires Rose. Rose is a feisty stripper who is played by Jennifer Aniston and yes, you do get to see her do some stripper moves! We also have Casey, Casey is a badass runaway played by Emma Roberts and she is snappy and rude which is Emma Roberts at her best. Seriously, does any other actress play a chick with an attitude better than Emma Roberts? She is hilarious and awesome. We then have poor gullible and dim Kenny who is played by Will Poulter.
Unexpected Encounters and Misadventures
On their way, they meet another family, the Fitzgerald family. The Fitzgerald family is headed by a nice guy, Don who also happens to be a DEA agent! Don is played by Nick Offerman who is great in this role. He is joined by his daughter Melissa whom Kenny has a crush on and his wife, Edie who is played by Kathyrn Hahn who I am a big fan of.
A Drug-Running Road Trip Gone Wrong
As you would expect, their drug-running adventure does not exactly go to plan and they end up in all kinds of trouble. The biggest trouble they end up in is in the form of being in the crosshairs of a big-time Mexican drug dealer who wants them all dead along with all the weed that they have in their RV.
Feel-Good, Laugh-Out-Loud Moments
Look, We’re the Millers is not what you would ever call a cinema classic and you kind of know that they are all going to grow close and be a “family” by the end of it. That does nothing to spoil the fun as we get crazy moment after crazy moment. Ranging from Kenny getting to make out with Casey and Rose at the same time to Kenny getting bit on the nuts by a spider!
Why We’re the Millers Is Worth Your Time
If you are in the mood for something silly, zany, and fun I do not think that you can go wrong with We’re the Millers. It is a feel-good laugh out loud style of movie that is perfect when you want something light to turn your brain off to. I highly recommend you give this a chance if you have not already seen it.
