Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings was released in 2011 and like the previous two movies, it was a straight-to-DVD release. I was not thrilled about the way Wrong Turn 3: Dead End turned out, but this one here more than makes up for that. This is right up there as the best in the franchise, actually, I think it may be my favorite, just ahead of Wrong Turn 2: Dead End.

The Movie Review
This one does not follow on from the events of Wrong Turn 3, instead what we have here is a prequel to the first movie. It starts back in the 70s and we see a young Three Finger, Saw Tooth and One Eye being held in a mental asylum. They manage to break out and a massacre happens, killing the patients and the people working there.
The Setting of Wrong Turn 4
We then fast forward to 2003, just before the events of the original Wrong Turn. We have a group of university students that are planning on going to their buddy’s cabin which is located in the mountains. It just so happens that there is a huge snowstorm as they are making their way there on their snowmobiles.
The Horror Unfolds
The snowstorm causes them to get lost and they come across the asylum where our three inbred cannibal brothers are now living! One of the members of the group, Lauren grew up around here and she tells the rest of her friends about the stories of these cannibals that killed and ate the people in this asylum.
With the snow being so bad, they decide to stay here for the night and try to make it to the cabin again in the morning. Boy did they pick the wrong place to try and hide from the storm, hell they would have been better just riding it out and trying to make it through the storm!
Survival Against the Inbred Cannibals
Our three inbred cannibals start picking our young attractive cast off one by one. One thing I love about Wrong Turn 4 is that it does not waste any time! The murder starts pretty soon after they take shelter in the asylum and they realize what is going on fairly quickly. As their numbers start to dwindle, they decide to get the hell out of there, but these inbred cannibals were a step ahead and messed with their snowmobiles!
The Appeal of Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings
Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings is fun and bloody stuff! It has some pretty gruesome kills and a fun ending that I still get a kick out of even though I have seen the movie multiple times. I will say that for as much as I like this movie, the cast is mostly forgettable. There is no one here that I strongly dislike, but there is also no one that I was really rooting for to survive.
Kyle’s Infamous Mistake in Wrong Turn 4
I also have to say that there is this one character, Kyle who has to go down in the Wrong Turn lore as the absolute biggest moron in the entire franchise! There is a point where they manage to turn the tables on the brothers and get them all locked up in a cell, they were home free and safe, but Kyle manages to fall asleep and let them escape! How the hell do you fall asleep when you are watching over three inbred psychotic killers with a taste for human flesh?
Rather than being annoying and completely unbelievable, this has a lot of charm and I get a kick out of poor old dumb Kyle. Like the other movies, if you enjoy them, you will enjoy this. However, if Wong Turn so far has not won you over, I do not see Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings changing your mind.
Wrong Turn 4 as a Unique Standalone Movie
I love this movie. While I like to watch all of the Wrong Turn movies back to back. Due to the winter setting of Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, this has become a movie that has somehow made it into my Christmas movie rotation! I would say that out of all the Wrong Turn movies, this one along with the first, probably stands out best as movies that can be watched without watching the rest of the franchise.
- It was cool to see the original three brothers back
- There are some awesome kills in this movie!
- I liked how it was a prequel
- The snow covered asylum was a nice change of pace from the woods
- The larger cast means it is harder to care about the characters
- You cannot help, but feel sorry for that poor dumbass Kyle!
