The Song Review
Bang, Bang Lyrical Interpretation
Bang, Bang is about female empowerment. It is sung by three legendary female singers; Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, and Jessie J. The singers showcase their sensual and sexual prowess, encompassing their dominance. They know they call the shots and will completely de-rail the man if he is unfaithful to them.
The song begins with Nick Minaj stating she is more mature and emotionally available than most girls. Though she may not have the perfectly advertised hourglass female figure or the huge derriere, she is still better than most. Later on, Jessie J and Ariana sing in dominant positions as the lyric continues.
The song has three verses which are very unusual for songs from the pop genre. Nick Minaj takes the lead in the last verse which provides it a different perspective. It elevates the lyrical energy to maintain the music lover’s interest. As the song continues, it becomes clear the lyrics are about sexual dominance where the singers are promising a heavenly climax to their partner.
In a usual conversation, the word “bang” is associated with a gun. It is the sound the bullet makes after leaving its vessel. However, in the lyrical context, it implies an intimate sexual encounter. The word “bang” is repeatedly used in the song to imply bedroom fun and satisfaction between the singers and their partners.
Yo, I said
Bang, bang, ba-bang, bang
Bang, bang, bang
Bang, bang, ba-bang, bang
Fair warning! The rap from Nicki Minaj is very explicit. She goes into every detail about acts in the bedroom while continuously flaunting she is in the dominant position. The singer insists she is working on pleasing their partner through her very skillful set.
Kitten so good
It’s dripping on wood
Get a ride in the engine that could go
Batman robbin’ it
Bang, bang, cockin’ it
Queen Nicki dominant, prominent
Bang, Bang Video Interpretation
The song video was captured in two days in the city of Los Angeles. The cinematography was directed by Hannah Lux Davis. She has previously worked on Love by Lil Wayne and Marry Me by Jason Derulo. The director was nervous to capture three divas in the same frame. It was a challenge to ensure each singer has an equal presence in front of the camera.
The video begins with an aerial view of LA city. The city is bustling with construction sites, socialization, and busy traffic. It is a summer’s day and we see Jessie J stepping out from a red Cadillac. She signals the pedestrian to join in while they dance in the background.
The frame shifts to Ariana Grande looking comfortable on silk bed sheets. She is holding a loudspeaker. Ariana is wearing a white, two-piece bodysuit with silver reflexes as she twirls and dances provocatively in the bedroom.
The setting develops to nighttime. We are greeted with a rooftop environment when Nicki Minaj steps out of a helicopter, greeted by background dancers. She instantly sings her signature rap verse, wearing a leather top and cheetah-print skirt.
The frame continues to switch between three settings; rooftop, bedroom, and busy LA streets. The lyrics overlap with intense music until the three singers collectively sing on the rooftop before the closing credits.
The Bottom Line
If you are experiencing low self-esteem or unsure relationship development, Bang, Bang will put you in the right mindscape to take charge. You will surely lead the partner to emotional and physical gratification while feeling empowered—not that’s a lethal trifecta!
