Say My Name: the Lyrics
Say My Name, in terms of its lyrics, is a combination of romance which is portrayed in an entertaining dance tune. It mostly features vocals from Bebe Rexha who begins by singing about how she has been preparing herself for bed and has been waiting for a certain someone to come over.
The background music builds up suspense until the chorus after which, a massive beat drop occurs. The main chorus consists of Rexha asking the man to simply say her name out of love as the lyrics state “I feel you breaking my heart, Say my name, say my name, If you love me, let me hear you”. In the latter part of the song, J Balvin makes his vocal appearance and sings completely in Spanish. At this moment, the lyrics transform into a more explicit language as Balvin’s lyrics mostly become related to sexual addiction. The duo then comes together and sings about being completely open to each other during intercourse before the main chorus plays and the song comes to an end.
The Video
The official music video features a tropical and vibrant environment where Guetta and Rexha make their appearance.
Rexha, in particular, can be seen wearing glow-in-the-dark tropical dresses as she begins to sing over a background of flowers and trees. The environment then shifts to a club with Rexha being supported by background performers as the chorus kicks in. This is followed by a change of clothes and hair color by Rexha who now dances in a checker themed floor along with the other dancers. An intriguing aspect of the video is how different tropical entities make a flashing appearance every time the tune shifts.
In some cases, a blossoming flower can be seen whereas in other cases, a chameleon can be seen standing still. In the latter part of the video, Balvin makes his appearance as he can be seen sitting in a chair right next to Guetta. All three artists then come together and manage to turn up the heat on the dance floor by singing together. The video ends with the camera running backward out of the jungle.
