Pineapple Express

Stoner Comedies have always been some of the most intriguing films in the comedy genre, whether you’re looking at Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, or Harold and Kumar, there’s always a duo that is higher than a kite, doing something incredibly absurdist and having the time of their lives while doing it. The Movie Review

The plot of Pineapple Express is simply amazing, its absurdist craziness dialed up to 100. This film is essential “if Cheech and Chong got caught in a Quentin Tarantino ‘Pulp Fiction-esque’ adventure”. It follows Dale Denton, a process server and marijuana enthusiast who witnesses a murder while dropping off papers to his dealer Saul Silver.

The two then find themselves on the run from a drug lord and his crooked cop cronies, all while puffing on the most potent weed around. The pacing is faster than a munchie-fueled run to the fridge, with never a dull moment as the duo tries to stay one step ahead of their pursuers.

The script of Pineapple Express is packed with hilarious banter and clever one-liners that will make you feel like you’re on a permanent high. Rogen and Franco deliver some of the funniest lines in recent memory, and their impeccable timing and delivery will leave you gasping for breath.

The dialogue is so sharp you could cut a diamond with it, and the humor is so outrageous that it’s impossible not to get caught up in the film’s wild and crazy ride.

The pacing is perfect, and the film never feels like it’s rushing to get to the next joke or action sequence. Green is a master of his craft, and he knows how to get the best out of his actors and create cohesive and engaging films.

From hilarious sight gags to clever wordplay, the film delivers laughs at every turn. Rogen and Franco’s chemistry is like a match made in stoner heaven, and the film takes full advantage of their comedic talents. The humor may be a bit crude for some, but hey, that’s just how the joint crumbles.

The film knows what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else, making it a truly authentic and hilarious stoner comedy experience. It’s got everything you’d expect from a film featuring these guys, a lot of comedy, a lot of F-bombs, a ton of drug-related jokes, and a healthy dousing of friendship and comradery.

The Characters

The cast is higher than a kite in this film, with Rogen and Franco delivering standout performances as the lovable and slightly idiotic duo. Danny McBride also shines as a drug dealer who gets caught up in the chaos. The supporting cast is top-notch, with Gary Cole and Rosie Perez delivering some of the film’s funniest moments.

They may not be the most complex characters, but they’re still lovable and entertaining. Dale and Saul’s friendship is relatable, and their journey over the course of the film is both funny and surprisingly emotional.

The Visuals

What elevates Pineapple Express a cut above the competition is the way it’s presented. The cinematography is so stunning, you’ll forget that you’re watching a movie about a couple of guys running for their lives. The California landscape is captured beautifully, and the action sequences are truly impressive.

The Music

Then you have the music in this film, from Huey Lewis and the News to Cypress Hill, the soundtrack matches every moment in the film beat by beat.

Green uses the music very cleverly, ensuring that each song will add to the vibe of the film, elevating each sequence.

The score, composed by Graeme Revell, is also worth mentioning. Somehow, the soundtrack in the film perfectly complements the film’s action sequences, and yet it is still there for those heartfelt moments that will hit you like a truck. Revell has created a score that is both memorable and catchy.

Verdict

Pineapple Express is an absolute gem of a film that delivers on all fronts. It is an absolutely wild and hilarious ride that will leave you with a big smile on your face.

The humor is the heart of the film, and it’s packed with witty banter, clever one-liners, and hilarious sight gags. On top of that, it’s presented with such attention to detail that you simply cannot undermine how great it looks and sounds, which is super rare in a comedy film.

It’s a classic stoner comedy that will stand the test of time, and it’s easy to see why it has become a cult classic. It’s sad to say that we’ll never see James Franco and Seth Rogen in a film together again, because man, did they make a duo…
