TechPowerUp GPU-Z is a really cool and free piece of software that is great for those of you that have a rather beefy gaming PC. Actually, gaming PCs of all levels are great for this and even those who just have a more “basic” setup may find this useful too. I get that this kind of thing is not for everyone, but if you want to know the vital statistics of your video card and graphics processor this is for you.

The Program Review
Before we get into what exactly this does, let’s have a little look at what this is compatible with. On the site, it says this is compatible with NVIDIA, AMD, ATI, and Intel graphic devices, so all of the big boys are covered by this. Windows XP all the way up to Windows 10, both 32- and 64-bit versions are covered by this.
The main two things that interested me were the graphics card and sensors features. Once you download the software and load it up, it is pretty easy to figure out what you are doing. If you click the graphics card tab, for example, it will detect what graphics card you are using. This can be handy if you have a pre-built machine and do not know what your graphics card is.
The graphics card feature gives you all the information you need about your graphics card. As well as telling you the name of your graphics card, it also gives you other information such as the BIOS version, what memory it has, the GPU clock, and it can even tell you if it supports things like ray tracing. This is just the tip of the iceberg; it has a ton easier to digest information too.
It can also create a backup of your graphics card BIOS. I know that this may not sound like much, but about three years ago my son’s graphics card had all kinds of issues, and had I know exactly what the BIOS was, the tech support guy would have had an easier time helping me so if I had this back then, I would have been in a much better position and less stressed out over the situation!
The sensors tab is one that is also very handy. Here you can see the various clocks, temperature, how much memory it is using, and so on. Stuff like this can be really handy if you need to troubleshoot any issues or if you are going to be able to overclock to get some new game running as best as possible.
The TechPowerUp GPU-Z is a great piece of software that is ideal for keeping tabs on your graphics card performance. I am not saying you would use this all the time, but downloading it, taking a screenshot of your graphics card details could save you some hassle down the road.
