Today we are talking about Disney Plus, the streaming service from Disney. Rather than looking at the app, you can get for your TV, game console, Fire Stick, or whatever, we are looking at the mobile app you can get for your phone or tablet. Disney Plus is one of the biggest streaming services in the world at the moment and it looks like it is only going to get bigger!
How to Download Disney+
You can download the Disney+ app from Google Play Store or from App Store. Check out also the versions for the game consoles. Click on the Download button at the end of the review.
The Program Review
To start with the app is very easy to use. It works pretty much the same way that the app you have for your TV does, but more streamlined for a smartphone/tablet interface. The first thing that is worth noting about the Disney Plus app is that it lets you download shows onto your device.
This is very handy, I use this feature a great deal at the gym, I have been watching The Walking Dead with this feature and it does not use my data. One thing I will say about downloading shows is to make sure you go into the settings of the app and make it so they download to your SD card (if you have one). For some reason, you have to do this via the actual app, not in the applications settings on your phone or tablet.
I currently have been using the Disney Plus app on my Sony Xperia phone and a Samsung Tablet and I have not had any problems with it. The streaming quality is great, the app has so far not crashed on me at all and in general, I think it works just as well as the Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps do.
When you fire up the app on your TV, you will be asked to choose a profile and that is fine. With the Disney Plus app for your mobile device, once you select a profile, it remembers this and next time you open the app, that profile will be loaded. You can still switch profiles if you like on the mobile app, but I liked how it kept that profile logged in all the time.
While the app technically runs fine, it is the content that really matters at the end of the day. Disney Plus has some great exclusive content with The Mandalorian and their shows set in the MCU being the main highlights. More great shows are set to come over the next couple of years and it all looks good, I just wish they would do the Netflix thing and throw a whole season on there at once!
As well as these awesome new shows, you also have a ton of other content. There are different categories in Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic, and Star. With Star, you do have to pay an extra couple of bucks per month, but I do think this is worth it. There is more “adult” content on there with shows like The Walking Dead for example.
As a streaming service, I think that Disney Plus is excellent value for money. From the fantastic classic content to the shows that they are making today, there is something for everyone here. The mobile app is great and I honestly do not have any complaints about it at all and the fact you can download shows as well as stream them is great.
