Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is a 2019 downloadable game that we have been waiting patiently for around half a decade! While they clearly have not tried to reinvent the wheel with this latest offering from the popular co-op shooter series. Borderlands 3 stakes its claim for not just the best in the franchise, but the best co-op-based shooter of this generation.

The Game Review

Let’s start with the setting. Once again, you are on the planet of Pandora and once again it is pretty much gone to hell. What is cool about the story of Borderlands 3 is that it has that great humor that you would expect. However, you actually go to neighboring planets so the look and feel of the story is far more diverse than it has ever been before and that is pretty awesome. Oh, and I love the Calypso twins!

Exploration is something that you will want to do. You will want to explore every nook and cranny as there is a ton of loot, Easter eggs, and other fun stuff to come across. I really could not be any more impressed with the locations that this game has and they are so large, diverse, and full of cool stuff that it may make going back to the older games a little tough.

The vault hunters that you can play as in Borderlands 3 are a lot of fun. Zane, FL4K, Amara, and Moze each have their own class and personality. The skill tree for each character is pretty impressive and you have a lot of say in the way that your character develops as you play. I really do think that no matter what kind of player you are, Borderlands 3 has a character configuration for you.

As far as the gameplay goes, I really am having a hard time doing it justice in words! This is the best the series has ever been. I am not just saying that because the arsenal of weapons is crazy or that you can run like some kind of parkour star from YouTube. Everything about the gameplay feels great. No matter if you are taking down a boss, sneaking around trying to get the loot before your team or just screwing around.

This is a co-op shooter and playing with others is how you get the best out of it. What I think is cool is that you can play it in a more friendly way where you can share items, loot and work together. Or you can “work together” but you are also out for yourself and want to get the loot first so you are the strongest player. This is a personal preference, but I liked working together as a team better.

There are a ton of missions for you to do. While it can be hard in some cases to know what is a main or side mission. You are going to be kept very busy as you are looking at 30+ hours to beat the campaign. I could see myself playing through this multiple times. Not just as a different character, but with different friends too.

Borderlands 3 is one of the best shooters of 2019. It is great to see that Gearbox has used these five years very wisely to make something that is very, very special. Even if the previous games in the series did not grab you, this one here adds more than enough to the formula to win you over. No matter if you play on PS4, Xbox One or PC, you have to check this out.
