I am not exaggerating when I say that Resident Evil 4 Remake is my most anticipated game of the year. The original Resident Evil 4 is my favorite video game of all time. I own it on six systems, have multiple figures, the chainsaw controller, and more! I love this series and that game is something very special.

The Game Review
So, with that being said, while I was very excited about the Resident Evil 4 Remake, I was also kind of nervous if it would live up to what were I am willing to admit, unrealistic expectations. To be honest, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 were so good, I should not have been concerned at all and I can tell you right now, Resident Evil 4 Remake did not disappoint.
This game is just incredible and if you played the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake I feel that those are a good base to have for what to expect here. The story at its core is the same. Leon is in Europe trying to find the President’s daughter, who has been taken by a weird cult.
However, the way the story is told is actually quite different. There are story paths and scenarios that are the same, but everything has been changed or altered, sometimes slightly, and other times it is very different. I am so glad that Capcom did this rather than just give us the same story, but with a fancy new engine and gruesomely pretty new graphics.
The gameplay is where this game really got me. It is still an action game, but it expands on pretty much everything that the original did. I would also say that it offers far more than both the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes offered as well. The areas in the game feel much larger and there are now these fun side quests that you can go on.
The side quests are a great addition to the game. The side quests never take you too long and are usually pretty straightforward, but you get rewarded with spinals that you can use in trade with the merchant. The shooting feels great and I found that the challenge on normal difficulty was near perfect.
While this is no cakewalk, the game gets a bit harder as you progress through it as a good game should. It is quite generous with the ammo and being able to craft ammo from gunpowder and resources that we pick up is another new addition that I am glad they did here.
Playing through the Resident Evil 4 Remake is like playing through a Hollywood action movie. This is a remake that I feel went as well as it possibly could have done. It more than lived up to my expectations and they were sky-high! So far out of all the Resident Evil remakes that we have had, this one here is my favorite and I have to say that it comes really close to taking over from the original, but the nostalgia I have for that is just a bit too strong.
One thing I will say is that in my opinion the start of the original Resident Evil 4, when you are in the village before the bell gongs and the villagers go away, is better. However, I would say that the entire rest of the game from the pacing, the area designs, and so on is done better in this remake. I have a hard time imagining that any other game is going to top this as my game of 2023!
