ULTRAKILL (which you have to write in all caps by the way) is a fast-paced first-person shooter that is one of the most fun games I have played in ages! The game is currently in early access, but there is still more than enough content here. Also, I promise you this is one of the most insane shooters you will play this year.

The Game Review
The game is about a robot that needs blood to survive. The problem is, not many humans are left so the robot heads to hell where lots of creatures live, lots of creatures with lots of blood! The premise is fantastic and seeing a robot going through the different circles of hell is awesome.
The phrase that is being thrown around with ULTRAKILL is Devil May Quake. I can see why, while this is a first-person shooter, it has just as much, if not more in common with a game like Devil May Cry. The robot you control feels fantastic to control. He is fast, he can slide, he can jump and he has a double jump. Not to mention his robot arm which if you time it right can be used to deflect an enemy shot back at them.
So far the game only has a handful of weapons, but that is not a problem. Each weapon in the game has multiple modes. The handgun for example can use a charge shot, the shotgun can shoot grenades, the rail gun can pull in nails, and so on. The gunplay is so much fun and switching between weapons is something that is greatly encouraged.
You see, in Devil May Cry, you are rated on how stylishly you take down the enemies and that is the case here in ULTRAKILL. You get ranked from D to A and then there is the S and triple S rankings if you are extra cool. You can go one step ahead with an Ultra rating. Switching up your attacks and using the environments is key here.
The shooting feels more satisfying than any other first-person shooter that I can think of which has been released in the last few years. Remember how we talked about blood before? Well, when you kill enemies, they drop blood, blood is your life so you need to pick it up. This encourages you to always be on the front foot, even when health is low, you are better of attacking first.
ULTRAKILL also has a very cool art style. This is designed to be like a game that was released in the 90s, but it still has a style of its own. Each circle of hell has its own theme and style. Purgatory is nice and green, lust is all cyberpunky and gluttony is just gross. I cannot wait to see what else is added here as the game progresses through development.
Even in the early access state, ULTRAKILL is a game you have to play if you like shooters. It is just so much fun to play that even though there are only 5 levels (as of writing) you will want to replay them over and over again. This is one of the coolest, most fun, and most stylish first-person shooters that I have played in a very long time.
