Love, Money, Rock’n’Roll is a visual novel by SovietGames, the makers of the very well-received Everlasting Summer. The full game is set to release in March of 2019. The players live the life of an ordinary Japanese school student whose life is turned upside down when a sudden flurry of political involvement, relationships, and schemes come his way.

The Demo Review
The story starts as players being the child known as Nikolai. Nikolai is the son of two engineers who had emigrated to Japan from the Soviet Union (pretty sure this is an inside joke). Unfortunately, the parents pass away from a production accident. Ever since then, our protagonist has been attending a wealthy school with all the children of big-name households.
Nikolai has lived a quiet life at his school for most of his year until suddenly, the protagonist sees a high level of interest for unknown reasons, he’s even being followed (perhaps because of the things his parents were working on before they died?) and it will be for the player to find out why.
The art features Japanese style anime artwork in pretty high quality in my opinion. Each scene is very well drawn and fits the atmosphere of the moment. And who could forget the most important part about visual novels, the characters. Apart from yourself, there are four main heroines which you can interact and develop relationships with.
As a bit of a sneak peek we know that of the four characters Himitsu is Nikolai’s childhood friend. From the demo, we learn that she’s obviously in love with him while he really doesn’t care.
Catherine, on the other hand, is Nikolai’s ex-girlfriend. He misses her until suddenly she comes back to the same school he goes to which she left a year ago. Will they become a couple again?
Ellie is the granddaughter of the board chairman of the school Nikolai goes to. This pretty blonde girl is very self-assured and looks down on Nikolai until one day she gets into trouble and her reputation is in danger. Will the protagonist use this opportunity to get to know her better?
Kagome is the representative of Nikolai’s class. In the demo h,e has a chance to defend her when his classmates insult her in public. This is yet another romantic opportunity.
Each character impacts the way you live your life and you can find out more about them through the demo. Given that the game is in its demo stages, the storyline present is quite enjoyable regardless and hypes up the upcoming release for the game. While admittedly there is no outstanding feature that is brought to the genre of visual novels, the game so far seems like a solid addition for any game library interested in visual novels and I highly suggest player check out. It never hurts to try, especially when it’s free.
With these four heroines and the sudden change of wind within the school, it is your job to lead yourself through these hectic days filled with love, money, and rock’n’roll. The game currently features a demo found on Steam to check out if interested.
As for the game’s technical background, Love, Money, Rock’n’Roll was originally a Kickstarter project that started back in 2016 and its final stages considering its expected release in 2019. Many of what is expected to be in the game can be found on the Kickstarter webpage but a general summary includes over 300,000 words in the script, over 80 backgrounds, over 80 CGs, and over 3 hours of OSTs. For those looking for the next visual novel to play, be sure to keep an eye out for Love, Money, Rock’n’Roll and make sure to check out its demo in the meantime.
