Helltaker

I knew the moment I read that Helltaker “is a short game about sharply dressed demon girls” that it was a game for me. This is a kind of lewd puzzle game that has its tongue firmly placed in its cheek. They have managed to have a bit of a visual novel thing going on here too which makes for a rather interesting take on the puzzle genre.

The Game Review

The story of the game is pretty fun. Basically, you decide that you want to have a harem of hot girls. You decide that demon girls are the best so you head to hell and try and build yourself a harem of hot demon girls. The writing is very witty and you will find yourself smiling a lot as you play the game.

There are different demon girls that you are trying to get and each girl has her own style and personality. You have the Lustful Demon called Modeus and the Tired Demon called Pandemonica for example. The designs of the demon girls are great and they are kind of sexy without being too naughty.

I love the way that Helltaker looks. This game has an animated, almost cell-shaded kind of style to it and I really do like it. There is a whole “red” thing going on with the visuals and it is rather unique and makes the game stand out very well. The game also has this fast-paced score that fits the action and visuals perfectly, I just wish it had a bit of voice acting to really bring the characters to life.

This is a very fun puzzle game. You control our “hero” and each level has you trying to get to a demon girl. She will be at one end of the level and you have a certain amount of moves you can make to reach her. You will need to move blocks, watch out for traps, find items, and so on as you make your way to her. It starts off easy, but some levels give you just the bare amount of moves to make it so you do have to think.

As well as this part of the game, Helltaker also has a visual novel thing going on to. Once you make it to a girl you will have to talk to her. This is where you learn about each girl and you have to answer a question, if you get it wrong, you have to do the whole level again. This can be frustrating, but it does keep you on your toes.

While there may not be a great deal to Helltaker, what is here is so much fun. I had a great time with this and while it may look easy, it is anything but! It has a great sense of humor, some fantastic artwork and if you want a puzzle game that will make you think, make you laugh, and also let you check out hot demon girls, this is the game for you.
