The Game Review
Need for Speed has both the single-player and multiplayer player versions available. In the single-player version, the main game mode available to play is the campaign.
The campaign follows the story of the player’s character along with a small group of racers who are looking to gain respect and attention from popular motorsport and street racing figures. There are five different gameplay types available to play in the campaign, namely, Speed, Style, Crew, Build, and Outlaw where players can earn points for engaging into progress in the game through numerous overlapping storyline.
The campaign story itself takes place at the imaginary city of Ventura Bay, the city being based on Las Angeles. Throughout the campaign, the player’s character gets to compete in different races and tournaments through which they get to earn in-game money and reputation amongst other drivers. The storyline of the campaign leads to the player’s character competing against their own initial group.
Throughout the game, players have the option to go to their garage and modify and/or completely change their car in order to opt for an improved one. Cars can be bought or modified using the in-game money that players earn as a result of winning competitions.
Other game modes available to play offline include exhibition matches and offline tournament where players can choose the car they want to race with and compete against either the AI or their friends in co-op mode. In the multiplayer mode, the player can either compete in online tournaments or with their online rivals.
The multiplayer mode is based on an open-world environment where different players can meet each other, form groups, and can compete with or against each other. Winning multiplayer tournaments can lead to the players earning reputation known as SpeedPoints.
SpeedPoints, in-turn, determine the player’s overall rank, comparing it to the rest of the players from throughout the globe.
