Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Vive la France! is a large expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2, where the DLC unlocks access to France, a 20,000 km stretch of road to drive along. The DLC was originally released on the 5th December 2016 and was developed by SCS Software, the same team behind the rest of the Euro Truck Simulator series. With a few extra additions, there’s plenty of new content for players to find themselves enjoying in the open-expanse of France.

The DLC Review
Once again, just like the main game of Euro Truck Simulator, Vive La France! does not have any form of a story or incentive to play the game, other than the fact of earning enough money to purchase your own company. Outside of that, the core gameplay is the real incentive of the DLC, along with the rest of the Euro Truck Simulator line of games from SCS Software.
Not much has changed in the form of gameplay, it’s still the same as it was originally in the base version of the game. You must take different jobs and drive from one point of the map, all the way over to the other point that is marked on your map within the time limit while abiding by the laws of the road. Failing to do so is going to result in a penalty of some kind, which will ultimately restrict just how much you can earn with each job, forcing your long-term goal of acquiring your own company that much more difficult.
With the inclusion of the DLC, it adds a sprawling new map to drive through in the form of France. With 20,000 km of highway and roads to traverse along, it gives you more than enough interesting locales for you to explore as a player.
Alongside these interesting locales are some of France’s most prominent landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower and the game makes use of the not-so-popular French tollgate system, where upon your approach, you’ll be required to pay a small amount to get past.
While it isn’t exactly much of a mechanic, it’s designed to feel as if you’re truly driving along the French main roads and highways, giving you that true simulator feeling that not many games manage to pull off. While there aren’t any new trucks to purchase and drive around in, there are new companies, industries, and cargoes to haul, so the DLC manages to add just enough to keep you guessing for a while.
The closest comparison to this DLC is some of Euro Truck Simulator 2’s past DLC, as they are designed within the same scope. They all involve unlocking a new area of Europe and giving you more access to the open road, all the while being able to take in completely new sights that weren’t available to you in the first place.
Anyone that enjoys the main gameplay of Euro Truck Simulator 2 is bound to enjoy the DLC, as it’s quite simply just more of the same with very little iteration and that’s something fans of the game will be looking for.
