Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive, Spintires: MudRunner – American Wilds Expansion adds nine new trucks, tons of add-ons for your rig, and two new sandbox maps for players to explore as well as two new challenge maps.
Inspired by the terrain of Montana and North Dakota, American Wilds Expansion has amazingly good graphics for a game with such modest pretensions. It further excels in the sound department with engines that roar and mud that sloshes around realistically.
Played in single-player or online with friends, one of the biggest draws of American Wilds Expansion are is the huge and vibrant community that surrounds the game. Not only do they generate mods for the game but also help come up with new game types in what is largely a sandbox vehicle game.
A lot of the lifeblood of American Wilds Expansion post-release comes from the modding community, and they are as strong as ever. Players looking for some challenges beyond the new content introduced by the expansion will be well served to peruse the online community offerings.
Another huge strength of the DLC is its online cooperative gameplay. In the single-player mode, tasks can sometimes feel rote and uninspired, but with the addition of friends, these otherwise mundane tasks become games unto themselves.
Truly finding its greatest strengths in multiplayer, American Wilds Expansion is a game best experienced with other people and as a member of the devoted community.
This doesn’t mean that people won’t get a lot of the expansion if they choose to just stick with the single-player mode but that’s not the meat of the experience here.
