I had a buddy tell me for weeks that I needed to get in on Rise of Legions, but I kept blowing him off! This is a free to play MOBA/tower defense/deck building kind of game and I can tell you right now, it is pretty darn fun. The free to play stigma aside if you are looking for a game that is not only free but also fun you need to check this out.
How to Download Rise of Legions

The Game Review
The idea of the game is that you have two warring factions. You need to make it to your enemies Nexus and destroy it, but on the way, there will be turrets and battles to be fought. You need to make many decisions in order to help your faction in battle. This is done in a variety of ways.
The gameplay in Rise of Legions is fun, deep and very easy to get into and that is why I really like it. You place the barracks, use special abilities, you can cast spells and call in a specific group of units. This is basically what the actual gameplay is and while it sounds basic, it is fast, frantic and a lot of fun.
When you are not waging war on the battlefield you can choose what your deck will contain. 12 is the max number of cards that can be brought into your deck and there are three main types for you to consider which are Undead, Nature, and Holy. These special units each have their own kind of attacks, buffs, and general gameplay styles.
There are four different legions in the game and each one is very different. Blue are like robots and use energy. Green is more “organic” and likes to use healing and root style attacks. Black are dark creatures that like to use evil cold themed attacks and White is the shiny knights who have plenty of shielding and healing spells. Each legion has its own attacks, characters, and abilities and playing with each one is fun.
The progression in the game is pretty good. You will get new cards to use via a skill tree-like system. The way this works is that you do certain objectives, like killing so many units with a certain ability and you get a new card. This helps keep things fun and also will make you want to use units you may not normally use.
I think that Rise of Legions is a solid and fun game that is great if you are playing the AI or with or against a buddy online. It is way easier to get into than you would think, but there is a fair bit of depth here. Do not worry about the whole “free to play” thing as you can easily play the game for 8 or more hours without feeling the need to spend any money.
